Christian X Of Denmark
Christian X ( da, Christian Carl Frederik Albert Alexander Vilhelm; 26 September 1870 – 20 April 1947) was King of Denmark from 1912 to his death in 1947, and the only King of Iceland as Kristján X, in the form of a personal union rather than a real union between 1918 and 1944. He was a member of the House of Glücksburg, a branch of the House of Oldenburg, and the first monarch since King Frederick VII born into the Danish royal family; both his father and his grandfather were born as princes of a ducal family from Schleswig. Among his siblings was King Haakon VII of Norway. His son became Frederick IX of Denmark. His character has been described as authoritarian and he strongly stressed the importance of royal dignity and power. His reluctance to fully embrace democracy resulted in the Easter Crisis of 1920, in which he dismissed the democratically elected Social Liberal cabinet with which he disagreed, and installed one of his own choosing. Jens Bjerre (adventurer)
Jens Bjerre (16 March 1921 – 17 February 2020) was a Danish author, filmmaker and adventurer. He trained as a journalist at newspapers in provincial Denmark before becoming political editor at ''Aftenbladet'' in Copenhagen in 1943–47. During the German occupation of Denmark, Bjerre was active in the resistance group BOPA. In 1947, Bjerre embarked on a lifelong career as a freelance journalist by going to South Africa, where he lived among the San bushmen and studied their culture and customs. The following year, he returned and shot the documentary movie '' Kalahari'', which gives an insight into the lives and rituals of this ancient people. In the mid-1960s, Bjerre spent almost a year among the nomadic aborigines of the Northern Territory in Australia. Antonio Jacobsen
Antonio Nicolo Gasparo Jacobsen (November 2, 1850 – February 2, 1921) was a Danish-born American maritime artist known as the "Audubon of Steam Vessels". Biography Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark where he attended the Royal Academy of Design before heading across the Atlantic Ocean. He arrived in the United States in August 1873. He settled in West Hoboken, New Jersey (now Union City, New Jersey), across the Hudson River from Manhattan and New York Harbor, its port filled with ships from America and around the world. Jacobsen got his start painting pictures of ships on safes, and as his reputation grew, he was asked to do portraits of ships by their owners, captains and crew members, with many of his works selling for five dollars. Ole Sarvig ( Danish pronunciation:) (1921 in Copenhagen – 1981 in Copenhagen) was a Danish author and poet, known for his participation in the literary journal ''heretica''. In 1967 he received the grand prize of the Danish Academy. In 2004 his 1943 work ''Regnmaaleren'' was included in the Danish Culture Canon. Margrethe Schanne
Margrethe Sophie Marie Schanne (21 November 1921 – 9 January 2014) was a Danish ballet dancer who performed with the Royal Danish Ballet from 1942 to 1966, firstly as a group dancer and then as a solo dancer. She also performed as a guest of the Ballet des Champs-Élysées and at the Grand Ballet de Marquis de Cuevas. Schanne retired in 1966 to become a ballet instructor and did some acting. In 1953, she was appointed Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog and received the Tagea Brandt Rejselegat in 1962. Biography On 21 November 1921, Schanne was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was the daughter of the language teacher Jean Baptiste Schanne and Emilie Lind Hansen. Schanne was eight years old when she was admitted to the Royal Danish Ballet school after passing the entrance examination. Simon Ove Christian Ogilvie Spies (1 September 1921 – 16 April 1984) was a Danish tycoon, best known for founding the charter airline Spies Rejser, and its airway company Conair of Scandinavia, and for his flamboyant lifestyle and womanising, including the procurement of sexual services from young women, the ''morgenbolledamer''. Ib Spang Olsen
Ib Spang Olsen (11 June 1921 – 15 January 2012) was a Danish writer and illustrator best known to generations of Danes for cartoons and illustrations, many of which appeared in children's publications. Those include a series of nursery rhyme books written by Halfdan Rasmussen, including "Halfdans ABC". He also wrote his own children's books, such as the whimsical tale of the seasons, The Marsh Crone's Brew'. Olsen drew for newspapers, magazines, books, posters, television, and comics. For his lasting contribution as a children's illustrator Olsen received the international Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 1972. Life Olsen was born in Østerbro, Copenhagen. He had a modest upbringing but his memories of his childhood remained and became inspirations for his humorous and grotesque pencil drawings of everyday life.
