1915 New Zealand Rugby League Season
The 1915 New Zealand rugby league season was the eighth season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. International competitions New Zealand did not play any international matches in 1915. National competitions Northern Union Cup Auckland again held the Northern Union Cup at the end of the season. Inter-district competition Canterbury toured the West Coast, defeating West Coast 30–16 on 3 June at Victoria Park, Greymouth. That night the West Coast Rugby League was formed. William James Mitchell (28 November 1890 – 2 June 1959) was a New Zealand rugby footballer who represented New Zealand national rugby league team, New Zealand in both New Zealand national rugby union team, rugby union and New Zealand national rugby league team, rugby league. Early years Mitchell was born in Melbourne, Australia before moving to New Zealand where he worked for the New Zealand Railways Department. West Coast Rugby Union
The West Coast Rugby Football Union, formed in 1890, is the official governing body for rugby union in the Westland County, Hokitika Borough and Greymouth Borough districts, located in the West Coast provincial region of New Zealand, and is affiliated to the New Zealand Rugby Football Union. The West Coast RFU provincial representative team, a founding member of the National Provincial Championship, is based in Greymouth. The Thacker Shield is a rugby league football trophy awarded on an annual basis to the winner of a match between the champion clubs of the Canterbury Rugby League and West Coast Rugby League. Canterbury Rugby League
Canterbury Rugby League is the regional body that administers rugby league in Canterbury, New Zealand. CRL manages local competitions from senior level down to age group competitions. Canterbury Rugby League also manages the Canterbury rugby league team which represents the region in New Zealand competitions. Previously teams have competed in the Bartercard Cup and Lion Red Cup. The CRL is currently part of the South Island Zone which includes the Tasman, West Coast, Otago and Southland regions. Karl Ifwersen
Karl Donald Ifwersen (1893–1967) was a New Zealand rugby football player who represented New Zealand in both rugby league and rugby union. Early years Karl Donald Ifwersen was born on January 6 in Auckland, New Zealand. His parents were Charles Ernest Ifwersen (1868-1910), and Margaret Marion Bedell (1869-1944). He had 6 siblings; Margaret Zeka Ifwersen (1894-1944), Roy Ifwersen (1896-1940), Doris Norma Ifwersen (1899-1989), Esme Ifwersen (1901-1937), Alfred Neil Sinclair Ifwersen (1904-1963), and Mary Clyde Ifwersen (1907-1988). His brother Roy was also an accomplished senior rugby player who played with Karl at times. Ifwersen attended both St John's College and Auckland Grammar. Auckland Rugby League
The Auckland Rugby League (ARL) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is responsible for rugby league in the region, including both club and school rugby league. It began in 1910 when the first season of club league in Auckland occurred. The first match was a practice game between Newton Rangers and Ponsonby United at Victoria Park which Ponsonby won 17 to 15. The first full club season was in 1910. Percival Samuel Blight (8 January 1887 – 25 March 1955), who played under the name Sam Bligh, was a New Zealand rugby union and rugby league player. Charles Manning was a New Zealand rugby league footballer who played in the 1910s. He played at representative level for New Zealand ( Heritage № 94), Hawke's Bay and Canterbury, as a or . Playing career Ahuriri, Hawke's Bay, Addington and Canterbury Charles Manning switched codes midway through the 1912 season and joined the Ahuriri side. He scored 4 tries in one of their matches and gained selection late in the season for the Hawke's Bay side to play the touring New South Wales team. Joseph Aloysius Lavery ( - ) was a New Zealand rugby footballer who was part of the professional 1907-1908 New Zealand rugby tour of Great Britain.
