Christian X Of Denmark
Christian X ( da, Christian Carl Frederik Albert Alexander Vilhelm; 26 September 1870 – 20 April 1947) was King of Denmark from 1912 to his death in 1947, and the only King of Iceland as Kristján X, in the form of a personal union rather than a real union between 1918 and 1944. He was a member of the House of Glücksburg, a branch of the House of Oldenburg, and the first monarch since King Frederick VII born into the Danish royal family; both his father and his grandfather were born as princes of a ducal family from Schleswig. Among his siblings was King Haakon VII of Norway. His son became Frederick IX of Denmark. His character has been described as authoritarian and he strongly stressed the importance of royal dignity and power. Natalie Zahle
Ida Charlotte Natalie Zahle (11 June 1827 – 11 August 1913) was a Danish reform pedagogue and pioneer of women's education. She founded N. Zahle's School in 1851. Life Her parents were the Roskilde vicar Ernst Sophus Wilhelm Zahle (1797-1837) and Vilhelmine Catharina Louise Böttger (1802–37). After the death of her parents in 1837, she lived first with her mother's parents and then as the foster child of professor and zoologist Daniel Frederik Eschricht (1798–1863) and his wife. She was educated at the girls' school Døtreskolen af 1791 in Copenhagen, and supported herself as a governess. In 1849, she became a student at the newly founded women's teacher seminary Den højere Dannelsesanstalt for Damer. Operated by Annestine Beyer (1795–1884),it was the first school in Denmark to offer women a professional academic education. Peter Sabroe
Peter Sabroe (23 January 1867 – 26 July 1913) was a Danish journalist, politician, and children's rights advocate. Sabroe was born near Silkeborg, but moved to Copenhagen as a 14-year-old to take up an apprenticeship as a shoemaker. He soon became a social democrat and a member of a group of radicals called the ''Karl Marx Club''. In 1887, he became a journalist at a provincial newspaper, in Randers, moving the next year to the paper ''Demokraten'' in the larger town Aarhus, where he eventually served as editor, from 1895 to 1908. Moving then to Kolding, he became editor of the ''Kolding Socialdemokrat'' from 1908 to 1910. He spent the rest of his life in Copenhagen, where he worked at the ''Social-Demokraten'' from 1910 to 1913. Frederikke Federspiel
Frederikke Jakobine Federspiel (1839–1913) was the first female photographer to practice in Denmark. For many years, she ran her own photographic studio in Aalborg, always keeping abreast of the latest developments. Among her clients were the Danish princesses Dagmar and Alexandra who were attracted by her photo enamel jewelry. Early life Born in Horsens, Jutland, she was brought up in a bourgeois home together with her sister and five brothers. Vilhelm Bissen
Christian Gottlieb Vilhelm Bissen (5 August 1836 – 20 April 1913) was a Danish sculptor. He was also a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts with great influence on the next generation of Danish sculptors and for a while served as its director. Bissen was trained in the Neoclassical tradition from Bertel Thorvaldsen but after a stay in Paris around 1880, he was influenced by Naturalism. With the equestrian statue of Absalon he turned to Neo-romanticism. Biography Vilhelm Bissen was born in Copenhagen as the son of Herman Wilhelm Bissen, one of the leading Danish sculptors of his day. Young Bissen received training in his father's studio from an early age and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1853 to 1857, then in Rome between 1857 and 1863 and finally in Carrara from 1866 to 1867 where he studied marble techniques. Christian Zacho
Peter Mørch Christian Zacho, usually known as Christian Zacho, (31 March 1843, in Grenå – 19 March 1913, in Hellerup) was a Danish landscape painter who is remembered for his idyllic scenes of Danish beech woods. Early life His education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1862 to 1867 was followed by additional instruction under P. C. Skovgaard and Vilhelm Kyhn who was particularly successful in communicating a grandiose style which allowed Zacho to benefit from new artistic trends. When he was 30, he went to Italy with Anton Thiele, Otto Haslund and Christian Blanche, visiting the Vienna World Exposition on his return in 1873. He was particularly impressed by the French landscape painters, especially those from the Barbizon school, whose work he saw in Vienna.
