The 1913 Australasian Championships was a tennis tournament that took place on outdoor Grass courts at the Kitchener Park, Perth, Australia from 11 November to 15 November. It was the 9th edition of the Australian Championships (now known as the Australian Open), the 2nd held in Perth, and the third Grand Slam tournament of the year. The singles titles was won by Australian Ernie Parker. Grand Slam (tennis)
The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year, also referred to as the "Calendar-year Grand Slam" or "Calendar Slam". In doubles, a team may accomplish the Grand Slam playing together or a player may achieve it with different partners. Winning all four major championships consecutively but not within the same calendar year is referred to as a "non-calendar-year Grand Slam", while winning the four majors at any point during the course of a career is known as a "Career Grand Slam". Harry Parker (tennis)
Harry Parker was a New Zealand tennis player who was active during the first two decades of the 20th century. Parker won the doubles title at the Australasian Championships, the future Australian Open, alongside Bill Gregg in 1907. Roy Taylor (tennis)
Roy Taylor (1883–1934) was an Australian tennis player and also represented Australia at lacrosse. He was a stockbroker by profession. He won the South Australian State singles championship in 1912, 1913 and 1919. Taylor made his debut at the Australasian Championships in 1910 (losing in round one to Harry Parker). In the 1913 semi finals, the big serving Taylor led Harry Parker 5-1 in the third set (sets were 1-1) when he sprained his ankle. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Alfred Hedemann was an Australian tennis player. He won the doubles title alongside Ernie Parker at the Australasian Championships, the future Australian Open, in 1913. In the 1921 Australasian championships, held at Perth, Hedemann beat Keith McDougall in the semi-finals before losing to Rice Gemmell in the final.
