The Norwegian monarch is the head of state of Norway, which is a constitutional and hereditary monarchy with a parliamentary system. The Norwegian monarchy can trace its line back to the reign of Harald Fairhair and the previous petty kingdoms which were united to form Norway; it has been in unions with both Sweden and Denmark for long periods. The present monarch is King Harald V, who has reigned since 17 January 1991, succeeding his father, Olav V. The heir apparent is his only son, Crown Prince Haakon. Arne Dekke Eide Næss (; 27 January 1912 – 12 January 2009) was a Norwegian philosopher who coined the term " deep ecology", an important intellectual and inspirational figure within the environmental movement of the late twentieth century, and a prolific writer on many other philosophical issues. Næss cited Rachel Carson's 1962 book ''Silent Spring'' as being a key influence in his vision of deep ecology. Næss combined his ecological vision with Gandhian nonviolence and on several occasions participated in direct action. Næss averred that while western environmental groups of the early post–World War II period had raised public awareness of the environmental issues of the time, they had largely failed to have insight into and address what he argued were the underlying cultural and philosophical background to these problems. Henry Nikolai Karlsen (15 April 1912 – 11 October 1975) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He served as a deputy representative to the Norwegian Parliament from Finnmark during the terms 1950–1953, 1958–1961 and 1961–1965. Arne Brustad
Arne Brustad (14 April 1912 – 22 August 1987) was a Norwegian footballer. He is regarded as one of the country's best players of all time. Career Brustad was an outside-left for Lyn. He won 33 caps for Norway, and scored 17 international goals. He was a member of Norway's "Bronze Team" from the 1936 Olympics. Brustad, who made his international debut in 1935, was one of the star players of the Berlin Olympics, where he scored five goals in four matches, including all three goals in Norway's 3–2 win against Poland in the third-place match. In 1938, Brustad was a member of Norway's World Cup team. Norway were knocked out in the first round by eventual champions Italy after extra time by a score of 2–1. Brustad scored the Norwegian goal shortly before the end of normal time, and also added a second a few minutes later, but this goal was controversially disallowed for offside. Sally Olsen (10 April 1912 – 12 April 2006) was a Norwegian-born American social worker and missionary. She was a pioneer of evangelical and social work for criminals and for orphans and neglected children in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Sally Olsen was born in Bergen, Norway. She was the eldest of four girls. Her father died when she was five years old. In 1929, at age seventeen, Olsen and her family moved to the United States, where they first settled in Brooklyn, New York. Eva Haalke (née Hansen; 2 April 1912 – 24 October 2003) was a Norwegian dancer and ballet teacher. She was born in Trondheim, and was a sister of painter Hjalmar Haalke, and sister-in-law of novelist Magnhild Haalke. She started learning ballet when she was nine years old. As a young woman she performed in a number of operas and operettas, at various Norwegian theatres. After the Second World War she studied the Vaganova method in London. Thorvald Wilhelmsen (14 February 1912 – 13 September 1996) was a Norwegian long-distance runner who specialized in the 10,000 metres. He represented the club Grue-Finnskog IL.
