The 1909 Wimbledon Championships took place on the outdoor grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. Wimbledon () is a district and town of Southwest London, England, southwest of the centre of London at Charing Cross; it is the main commercial centre of the London Borough of Merton. Wimbledon had a population of 68,187 in 2011 which includes the electoral wards of Abbey, Dundonald, Hillside, Trinity, Village, Raynes Park and Wimbledon Park. It is home to the Wimbledon Championships and New Wimbledon Theatre, and contains Wimbledon Common, one of the largest areas of common land in London. The Wimbledon Championships, commonly known simply as Wimbledon, is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is widely regarded as the most prestigious. It has been held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London, since 1877 and is played on outdoor grass courts, with retractable roofs over the two main courts since 2019. Wimbledon is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, the others being the Australian Open, the French Open, and the US Open. Wimbledon is the only major still played on grass, the traditional tennis playing surface. The 1908 Australasian Championships was a tennis tournament that took place on outdoor grass courts in Sydney, Australia. The preliminary rounds were played at the Sydney Cricket Ground while the final took place on the Double Bay Grounds. It was the fourth edition of the Australasian Championships (now known as the Australian Open), the first held in Sydney and the third Grand Slam tournament of the year. It consisted of a men's singles and doubles event. Fred Alexander won the singles event and became the first non-Australasian to win the title. Harry Parker (tennis)
Harry Parker was a New Zealand tennis player who was active during the first two decades of the 20th century. Parker won the doubles title at the Australasian Championships, the future Australian Open, alongside Bill Gregg in 1907. He also reached two singles finals at the Australasian Championships in 1907 and 1913, and two doubles finals in 1906 and 1913. Stanley Norwood Doust (29 March 1878 – 13 December 1961) was an Australian-born tennis player who captained his nation's Davis Cup team and was winner of the Mixed Doubles Trophy at Wimbledon.The Times Obituaries Mr. Stanley N. Agnes Morton
Agnes Morton (6 March 1872 – 5 April 1952) was a British female tennis player. She twice reached the Ladies Singles finals at the 1908 and 1909 Wimbledon Championships and claimed victory in 1914 in Ladies Doubles with partner Elizabeth Ryan. She placed fourth at the 1908 Summer Olympics in Ladies Lawn Tennis. In 1903, she was described by A. Wallis Myers as a 'careful, steady and improving player'. Her other career singles highlights included winning the Redhill Open Tournament nine times (1903-04, 1906-07, 1909-12, 1914). Major Ritchie
Major Josiah George Ritchie (18 October 1870 – 28 February 1955) was a tennis player from Great Britain. Major was his first name, not a military title. He was born in Westminster, educated at Brighton College and died in Ashford. Career Ritchie was a three-time medalist at the 1908 London Olympics, winning a Gold (Men's Singles), Silver (Men's Doubles) and Bronze (Men's Indoor Singles) medal. He was the last British player to win an Olympic medal in singles until Andy Murray won Gold in the 2012 games, also in London. In 1908 and 1910 he and Anthony Wilding won the doubles in Wimbledon.
