William Juneau
William J. Juneau (February 24, 1879 – October 9, 1949) was an American football player and coach of football, basketball, and baseball. He served as the head football coach at Colorado College (1904), South Dakota State University, South Dakota State College of Agricultural and Mechanic Arts (1906–1907), Marquette University (1908–1911), the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1912–1915), the University of Texas at Austin (1917–1919), and the University of Kentucky (1920–1922), compiling a career college football record of 86–39–10. Juneau was also the head basketball coach at South Dakota State for two seasons from 1905 to 1907, tallying a mark of 7–5. He coached baseball at South Dakota State in 1906 and 1908 and at Wisconsin in 1913, amassing a career college baseball record of 15–12–1. 1909 College Football Season
The 1909 college football season was the first for the 3-point field goal, which had previously been worth 4 points. The season ran from Saturday, September 25, until Thanksgiving Day, November 25, although a few games were played on the week before. The 1909 season was also one of the most dangerous in the history of college football. The third annual survey by the ''Chicago Tribune'' at season's end showed that 10 college players had been killed and 38 seriously injured in 1909, up from six fatalities and 14 maimings in 1908. Schools in the Midwest competed in the Western Conference consisting of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin and Chicago. The 1909 Michigan Wolverines football team represented the University of Michigan in the 1909 college football season. The team's head coach was Fielding H. Yost in his ninth year at Michigan. The Wolverines compiled a record of 6–1, outscored opponents 116 to 34, and held six of seven opponents to six points or less. The team began its season with four consecutive victories, including close calls against Case (3–0) and Marquette (6–5) and dominating performances against Ohio State (33–6) and Syracuse (44–0). The team's sole setback came in the fifth game, losing to Notre Dame (11–3) for the first time in nine games between them. Old College Field
Old College Field is an area on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. The school broke ground in 1900 to provide a place for the varsity baseball team to play. Today, the area includes facilities for baseball, soccer, and softball. It is located on a floodplain on the inside of a bend in the Red Cedar River. The "New Life for Old College Field" campaign, which began in 2006, was to enhance the sports programs which played on the Field.
