The 1903 Challenge Cup was the 7th staging of rugby league's oldest knockout competition, the Challenge Cup. It featured clubs from the 1902-03 Northern Rugby Football Union season. Jack Riley (rugby League)
Jack Riley (c. 1874 – 19 June 1924) was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s. He played at representative level for England, and at club level for Halifax, as a forward (prior to the specialist positions of; ), during the era of contested scrums, and represented England in the first ever international rugby league game in 1904. Playing career Riley started his rugby career with his local team in the village of Luddenden Foot, aged 17. In October 1893, he was signed by Halifax. International honours Jack Riley won a cap playing as a forward, i.e. number 10 (in an experimental 12-a-side team), for England in the 3–9 defeat by Other Nationalities at Central Park, Wigan on Tuesday 5 April 1904, in the first ever international rugby league match. Patrick Tunney (1 February 1872 – 28 November 1949) was an Irish born, English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s. He played at representative level for England, and at club level for Salford, as a Forward (prior to the specialist positions of; ), during the era of contested scrums. Playing career International honours Pat Tunney won a cap for England, he played as a forward, i.e. number 9, in the 3–9 defeat by Other Nationalities at Central Park, Wigan on Tuesday 5 April 1904, in the first ever international rugby league match. Tunney won 18 caps playing for Lancashire. Jack Rhapps
John "Jack" Rhapps (15 July 1876 – 23 January 1950) was a Welsh international rugby union forward who played club rugby for Penygraig, and international rugby for Wales. Rhapps later "Went North", when he turned professional, joining rugby league team Salford, and along with Anthony Starks they became the World's first dual-code rugby internationals. Rhapps was born in the Penylan pub in Aberaman,Smith (1980), pg 108 near Aberdare, but came to the Rhondda Valley to find work. A collier by profession, Rhapps was one of the first 'Rhondda forwards', an aggressive style of forward player who was expected to play a more physical style of game.Parry-Jones (1999), pg 36. James Lomas (rugby League)
James Lomas (26 August 1879 – 11 February 1960), also known by the nickname of "Jumbo", was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1890s, 1900s, 1910s and 1920s, and coached in the 1920s. three-quarter, and prominent goal-kicker, he captained the Great Britain national rugby league team. After starting with his home town Maryport's rugby union club, Lomas switched to rugby league, playing for Bramley, Salford, Oldham ( Heritage No. 136) and York in a career that lasted for twenty-four years from 1899 to 1923, and saw him set new transfer fee and point scoring records. He also played representative matches for England, Lancashire and Cumberland. After retiring from playing Lomas coached Salford. Billy Bulmer
Sir James William Bulmer (8 August 1881 – 26 June 1936) was an English public servant and professional rugby league footballer. He played rugby league in the 1900s for Halifax as a forward and represented England in the first ever international rugby league game in 1904. Background Bulmer was born in Halifax, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, during the World War I, Bulmer was a public servant, and served on the Wool Textile Control Board, and the Wool Statistical Committee. Frederick William Hammond (born December 27, 1960) is an American gospel singer, bass guitar player, and record producer. He is regarded as one of the most popular figures in contemporary gospel music. He is known for using a variety of different styles in his music such as R&B, hip-hop, and disco. Musical career Hammond has been active both as a member of the gospel performing group Commissioned, and as a solo artist (currently for Verity Records). He is a multiple Grammy, Dove, and Stellar award winner and nominee as a performer, producer, and writer. Hammond first gained recognition while playing bass guitar for the gospel group The Winans. By 1985, he was one of the six original members of the group Commissioned, participating in 10 of the group's 12 albums.
