In the 1894–95 season, the English football team Everton F.C. finished second in the 1894–95 Football League. It was the team's best result since winning the League in 1891. Everton reached the quarterfinals of the F.A. Challenge Cup where they lost to Sheffield Wednesday F.C. William Stewart (footballer Born 1867)
William Stewart (born 1868) was a Scottish footballer who played in the Football League for Everton and Preston North End. Football career Initially with Black Watch, Stewart was an Army Cup winner and helped Distillery win the Irish Cup while stationed in Ireland with the Royal Scots. Preston North End bought him out of the Army. He moved to Everton in July 1893, forming a notable half back line with Johnny Holt and Dickie Boyle and playing in the 1897 FA Cup Final, a defeat to Aston Villa. Stewart was signed for Bristol City by Sam Hollis in July 1898 and finished his career as captain playing 51 games in the Southern League with Bristol City. He was noted for his long throw-ins involving a running and jumping technique that was eventually outlawed. Abe Hartley
Abraham Hartley (8 February 1872 – 9 October 1909) was a Scottish footballer. Hartley played for Everton as a centre forward for five years in the 1890s. He also played for Merseyside rivals Liverpool and for his local club, Dumbarton. His career also included stints at Southampton, Woolwich Arsenal and Burnley at the end of his career. He appeared on the losing side in the 1897 FA Cup Final while at Everton. Football career Early days Hartley was born in Dumbarton, Scotland and was the son of a tailor. After youth football with Artizan Thistle, he joined Dumbarton, where two of his brothers also played, in 1890. During his time with Dumbarton, he converted from a right back to a forward. While on the books of Dumbarton, the team won the first two Scottish Football League titles in 1891 and 1892 together with the 1891 Scottish Cup. Jack Elliott (born 25 August 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer. Youth Elliott was born in London, England to Scottish parents. Attending Wilson's School in Wallington, he spent a year playing for Fulham at the age of 12 before being scouted by West Virginia University whilst playing in the Surrey Senior Cup. James Adams (footballer Born 1864)
James Adams (17 August 1864 – 21 April 1943) was a Scottish footballer who played for Heart of Midlothian, Everton and Scotland. He started his senior career with Hearts, and won the Scottish Cup with the club in 1891 (their first major trophy and the first time the competition had been won by a team from the Scottish capital). He played in England for Everton for two seasons from 1894 to 1896, before playing one more season for Hearts in 1896–97 and finishing with a short spell at St Bernard's. Adams won three caps for Scotland, spread across four years. In an era when representative matches between cities and regions were frequent, he was selected for Edinburgh / East of Scotland on more than a dozen occasions. Jack Hillman
William John 'Jack' Hillman (30 October 1871 – 16 December 1952) was an English football goalkeeper who played for Burnley, Everton, Dundee, Manchester City and Millwall. Career Jack Hillman was born in Tavistock, Devon, but it was in Lancashire that he made his reputation. In 1890 Hillman was playing for the Young Pilgrims, a junior side affiliated with Plymouth Argyle. An impressive performance against Burnley reserves prompted the Football League club to sign him, and he made his first team debut in 1891. He played for the club for the majority of the next decade, aside from two years at Everton, and a brief spell at Dundee. Hillman was known throughout his career as "Happy Jack" and spent four years at Turf Moor before being sold to Everton for £150 in February 1895. He was unable to settle at Goodison Park and in June 1896 he moved on to Dundee. Tom Cain (footballer)
Thomas Cain (12 October 1874 – 1897) was an English footballer who played as goalkeeper for Stoke, Everton and Southampton St. Mary's in the 1890s. Football career Cain was born in Sunderland and started his career with Hebburn Argyle before joining Stoke in 1893, where he took over in goal from the injured Bill Rowley for eleven league matches during the 1893–94 season. In April 1894, he moved to Everton, making his first team debut as a replacement for the out of form Richard Williams in a 3–1 victory over Bolton Wanderers on 6 October 1894. Cain retained his place for a further nine league matches, before Williams was recalled. After two further appearances in March, Cain moved to the south coast to join Southampton St. Mary's for their second season in the Southern League. Edgar Chadwick
Edgar Wallace Chadwick (14 June 1869 – 14 February 1942) was a left-sided footballer who had a long and distinguished career with Everton during the 1890s. He was also the national coach for the Netherlands from 1908 to 1913. His cousin, Arthur Chadwick, also played for England and Southampton, while another cousin, Albert Chadwick, played for Everton.
