Jack Elliott (footballer)
Jack Elliott (born 25 August 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer. Youth Elliott was born in London, England to Scottish parents. Attending Wilson's School in Wallington, he spent a year playing for Fulham at the age of 12 before being scouted by West Virginia University whilst playing in the Surrey Senior Cup. Playing career College and amateur Elliott played four years of college soccer at West Virginia University between 2013 and 2017. He also played in the Premier Development League for South Florida Surf in 2016. Homegrown Player Rule (Major League Soccer)
The Homegrown Player Rule is a Major League Soccer program that allows MLS teams to sign local players from their own development academies directly to MLS first team rosters. Before the creation of the rule in 2008, every player entering Major League Soccer would have to be assigned through one of the existing MLS player allocation processes, such as the MLS SuperDraft. MLS roster rules allow a team to sign players to contracts similar to Generation adidas contracts, which do not count against the MLS salary budget and may earn a much higher salary than the league minimum. MLS has since removed this wording from the roster rules. That means homegrown players will not count against the salary budget only if they are registered using supplemental roster slots, but will still count against the salary budget if they are registered using senior roster slots. Julian Emil Kurt Gressel (born December 16, 1993) is a professional soccer player who plays as a full-back for Major League Soccer club Vancouver Whitecaps. Born in Germany, he represents the United States national team. He began his career in Germany before moving to the United States in 2011.
