A by-election, also known as a special election in the United States and the Philippines, a bye-election in Ireland, a bypoll in India, or a Zimni election (Urdu: ضمنی انتخاب, supplementary election) in Pakistan, is an election used to fill an office that has become vacant between general elections. A vacancy may arise as a result of an incumbent dying or resigning, or when the incumbent becomes ineligible to continue in office (because of a recall, election or appointment to a prohibited dual mandate, criminal conviction, or failure to maintain a minimum attendance), or when an election is invalidated by voting irregularities. Alfred Money-Wigram (sometimes Alfred Wigram, 21 July 1856 – 13 October 1899) was a British brewery company director, and Member of Parliament for the Romford division of Essex from 1894 to 1897. Money-Wigram was born on 21 July 1856.Look and Learn describe him as a "wealthy banker"; the International Brewers' Journal records an Alfred Money-Wigram as a shareholder in Reid's Brewery Company, and he is listed as a director of Reid's Brewery Company Limited in a successful 1894 taxation case before the High Court of Justice. The Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ), formerly known as Conservative Central Office (CCO), is the headquarters of the British Conservative Party, housing its central staff and committee members, including campaign coordinators and managers. As of 25th October 2022, Nadhim Zahawi is the Chairman of the Conservative Party. Campaigning CCHQ is responsible for all campaigning of the Conservative Party, though it delegates responsibility for local campaigns to constituency Conservative Associations. John Bethell, 1st Baron Bethell
John Henry Bethell, 1st Baron Bethell (23 September 1861 – 27 May 1945), known as Sir John Bethell, 1st Baronet, from 1911 to 1922, was a British banker and Liberal politician. Early life Bethell was the son of George Bethell and his wife Frances (''née'' Tipper), and was educated at King's College London. His younger brother was Sir Thomas Bethell (1867–1957). Career He was a Director of Barclays Bank and of the Royal Exchange Assurance Corporation and also served twice as Mayor of East Ham and twice of West Ham. In November 1902, Bethell was adopted as the Liberal party candidate for Romford, and he was elected to the House of Commons from that constituency in the following election in 1906. He held this seat until 1918, and then represented East Ham North between 1918 and 1922.
