Amélia Dos Santos Costa Cardia
Amélia dos Santos Costa Cardia (1855–1938), born in Lisbon Lisbon (; pt, Lisboa ) is the capital and largest city of Portugal, with an estimated population of 544,851 within its administrative limits in an area of 100.05 km2. Grande Lisboa, Lisbon's urban area extends beyond the city's administr ..., was one of the first women medical doctors in Portugal. She attended the Polytechnic School from 1883 until 1887, and then attended the Medical-Surgical School of Lisbon, graduating on July 20, 1891. Her doctoral thesis was on yellow fever. She was the first woman in Portugal to work in a hospital internship. She also founded a nursing home which she led for almost ten years, and was part of the National League Against Tuberculosis and Association of Medical Sciences. Abel Botelho
Abel Acácio de Almeida Botelho (23 September 1855 or 1856 – 1917), was a Portuguese military officer and diplomat who distinguished himself as a writer. A representative of Naturalism in Portugal, he wrote, among others, ''O Barão de Lavos'' and ''O Livro de Alda'', the first two titles in his "Patologia Social" series. In 1911, he took part in the commission that selected and approved the draft of what would become the current flag of Portugal. Biography Botelho was born in Tabuaço, a small town in Portugal's Douro region, son of Luís Carlos de Almeida Botelho, an infantry major and a high school teacher in Vila Real and Maria Preciosa de Azevedo Leitão, a mother descendant of wealthy farmers. List Of Portuguese Monarchs
This is a list of Portuguese monarchs who ruled from the establishment of the Kingdom of Portugal, in 1139, to the deposition of the Portuguese monarchy and creation of the Portuguese Republic with the 5 October 1910 revolution. Through the nearly 800 years in which Portugal was a monarchy, the kings held various other titles and pretensions. Two kings of Portugal, Ferdinand I and Afonso V, also claimed the crown of Castile. When the House of Habsburg came into power, the kings of Spain, Naples, and Sicily also became kings of Portugal.
