Anton Ræder
Anton Henrik Ræder (25 November 1855 – 26 January 1941) was a Norwegian educator, philologist and historian. He is most commonly known for his history textbooks relating to the Roman Empire. Biography Anton Ræder was born in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was the son of jurist Nicolai Ditlev Ammon Ræder (1817–84) and Johanne Cathrine Scheel (1830-1910). He was the brother of military officer Johan Christopher Ræder. His uncles included military officers Georg Ræder and Jacques Ræder as well as diplomat Ole Munch Ræder. Ræder attended Oslo Cathedral School. He received a classical education in both Latin and Greek history and geography. Fredrik Meltzer
Fredrik Meltzer (29 September 1779 – 17 December 1855) was a Norwegian businessman and representative at the Norwegian Constitutional Assembly at Eidsvoll in 1814. He is perhaps best known for designing the flag of Norway. Biography Fredrik Meltzer was born in Bergen, Norway. Meltzer was from a merchant family with origins in Rödinghausen in the County of Ravensberg (in present-day Westphalia), Germany. Meltzer received a commercial education in London from 1796 to 1798. His education continued with trips during 1800 to 1801 in the Netherlands, France and Germany, after which he joined the family import and export company in Bergen. He represented the city of Bergen as a member of the Norwegian Constitutional Assembly where he served as a member on several committees. Ole Paus (shipowner)
Ole Paus (23 March 1766 – 26 July 1855) was a Norwegian ship's captain, shipowner and land owner, who belonged to the patriciate of the port town of Skien from the late 18th century. He is noted as the stepfather of Knud Ibsen (1797–1877) as well as being the uncle of Marichen Altenburg (1799–1869) the parents of noted playwright Henrik Ibsen (1828–1906). Biography Ole Paus was born at Bjåland in Lårdal, Telemark, Norway. In his youth, he had moved to Skien in Vestfold og Telemark where he was raised by relatives before went to sea as a 12-year-old and became a skipper. He was married to Johanne Plesner 1770–1847) who had previously been married to ship's captain Henrich Ibsen (1765–1797). Ivar Bergersen Sælen (19 November 1855 – 24 November 1923) was a Norwegians, Norwegian politician from the Conservative Party (Norway), Conservative Party who served as Ministry of Education and Research (Norway), Minister of Education and Church Affairs from March 1923 until his death in November the same year. Axel Paulsen
Axel Paulsen (18 July 1855 – 9 February 1938) was a Norwegian figure skater and speed skater. He invented the figure skating Axel jump and held the world title in speed skating from 1882 to 1890. In 1976 he was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame. Biography Paulsen was born in Aker near Christiania (today's Oslo) to Haagine Olsen (1822–1918) and the merchant Johan Peter Paulsen (1820–1887). He grew up in Oslo, where his father ran a coffee shop. He started skating at early age and by 1870 already competed both in speed skating and figure skating. In 1882 he won the World Championships in speed skating in Vienna and received an extra prize in figure skating for a new jump, which he performed while wearing speed skates and which was later named after him. Nils Severin Lynge Hansteen (27 April 1855 – 11 October 1912) was a Norway, Norwegian Painting, painter. He was known principally for his landscape painting as well as his marine art, often featuring ships in a stormy seas. Life and work Nils Hansteen painted in a naturalism (arts), naturalistic style, with motifs from marine and forest environments. His art is on exhibit at a number of public art museum throughout Norway including Trondheim Kunstmuseum, as well as the Kunstforening in Drammen and the Kunstmuseene in Bergen.
