Sveinung Svalastoga
Sveinung Bjørnson Svalastoga (1772–1809) was a Norwegian rose painter, poet and woodcarver. Biography Sveinung Bjørnson Svalastoga was born in the community of Vinje in Rauland, Telemark County. He was the son of Bjørn Bjørnson Gardsjord (1731-1782) and Ingebjørg Rikardsdotter Svalastoga (1730-1776). He was born at Svalastoga, one of the area's oldest farm. Sveinung Svalastoga painted living room interiors, cupboards, chests and bowl with powerful and colorful designs, often randomly placed. Many of his works have been retained, both room decorations as well as smaller objects like chests and cupboards. He was also known for the mystical figures he cut and carved from twisted mountain pines, such as a mystical woman and her man, and a fairy tale princess set up at the corner of the storehouse. Peter Westerstrøm
Peter Westerstrøm (1779–1809) was a Swedish mass murderer who gained notoriety for the Saksebøl Slaughter in Moss, Norway during the Napoleonic wars. Background Peter Westerstrøm was born in Ljungby in Sweden around 1779. His father Jonas was the local sexton, but died when Peter was 8 years old. His mother died in 1804 and Peter was raised by his brother. He started his professional career as a man-servant; later on he started training as a tailor, but never became more than an apprentice. He later claimed to have tried to have started an enterprise refining cotton, but he had to borrow money and the enterprise failed. This story was never corroborated as there was a state of war between Norway and Sweden at the time and serious doubt was cast on his curriculum. By 1806, he had moved to Norway. Niels Stockfleth Darre
Niels Stockfleth Darre (18 February 1765 – 9 October 1809) was a Norwegian military officer. Darre was born in Fåberg as the son of Major General Michael Darre (1728–1804) and his wife Anna Christine Pram. He married Ellen Aschim. Niels Stockfleth Darre was hired in the military cadastre authority in 1787, and eventually advanced to leader. In 1807, when the Gunboat War broke out, he was appointed aide-de-camp for the Danish Prince Christian August. In 1808, when the Dano-Swedish War broke out, Darre participated in battles with the rank of Major. Evert Andersen
Evert Andersen (1 February 1772 – 29 July 1809) was a Norwegian sea captain who fought in the Gunboat War against Great Britain and Sweden 1807–09. Early life Andersen was a farmer's son from Lista who left his father's farm to his younger brother and went to sea. He enlisted as a gunner with the fluyt ''Eensgezindheid'' of the Dutch East India Company and made a three-year voyage from Amsterdam to Batavia between 1784 and 1787. Back in Norway he settled in Kristiansand, probably in 1805, marrying Helene Hansdatter Netland in 1807 and fathering three daughters. War Following the Battle of Copenhagen (1807) and the surrender of the Danish/Norwegian fleet to the British, only one operational ship of the line was left uncaptured, the '' HDMS Prinds Christian Frederik'', in Kristiansand. Niels Carlsen
Niels Carlsen (8 January 1734 – 3 May 1809) was a Norwegian timber merchant, landowner, shipowner and banker. Carlsen was one of the biggest ship owners in Norway of his time. Career Carlsen was born in Drøbak in Akershus, Norway. He was the son of Jacob Carlsen (ca. 1685-1749) and Maria Jørgensdatter Frost. His father had married the widow of his employer and took over the trading business. Drøbak had a favorable location situated on east side of Drøbak Sound, at the narrowest part of the Oslo Fjord. It was near the capital, had good anchoring and mooring facilities and a protective harbor. Niels Carlsen and his half brothers Christian went into their father's business and expanded it.
