George Dent
George Dent (1756 – December 2, 1813) was an American planter and politician from Maryland who served in the House of Representatives from 1793 to 1801. Early life Dent was born on his father's estate, "Windsor Castle", on the Mattawoman Creek in Charles County. His father, General John Dent (1733-1809), was a planter who was a patriot during the Revolutionary War. Revolutionary War He initially served during the Revolutionary War in 1776 as a 1st lieutenant in the Third Battalion of the Flying Camp from Maryland. After the Flying Camp was disbanded in December 1776, Dent returned to Maryland and was commissioned a 1st lieutenant in the Charles County militia under Captain Thomas H. Marshall. Samuel Smith (Maryland Politician)
Samuel Smith (July 27, 1752April 22, 1839) was an American Senator and Representative from Maryland, a mayor of Baltimore, Maryland, and a general in the Maryland militia. He was the brother of cabinet secretary Robert Smith. Smith served twice as President pro tempore of the United States Senate, first from 1805 to 1808 and later from 1828 to 1831. Biography Samuel Smith was born in Carlisle in the Province of Pennsylvania. His grandfather, also named Samuel Smith (1698–1784), was born in Ireland and settled in the Province of Maryland. Smith moved with his family to Baltimore, Maryland, in 1759. He attended a private academy, and engaged in mercantile pursuits until the American Revolutionary War, at which time he served as captain, major, and lieutenant colonel in the Continental Army. John Archer (Maryland Politician)
John Archer (May 5, 1741 – September 28, 1810) was a prominent physician, slaveowner, and U.S. Congressman from Maryland, representing the sixth district for three terms from 1801 to 1807. His son, Stevenson Archer and grandson Stevenson Archer II were also Congressmen from Maryland. Early life Archer was born on May 5, 1741, near Churchville in the Province of Maryland, and attended the West Nottingham Academy in Cecil County, later graduating from Princeton College in 1760 with a Bachelor of Arts and in 1763 with a Master of Arts. He studied theology, but owing to a throat affliction, he abandoned his studies in that area and began the study of medicine. He graduated as a physician from the College of Philadelphia on June 21, 1768, receiving the first medical diploma issued on the American continent. Gabriel Christie (November 29, 1756 – April 1, 1808) was an American political leader from Perryman, Maryland. He was born in Perryman. He served in the Maryland militia during the American Revolution. He served as a member of the Maryland house of delegates and on a commission for straightening roads. He represented the sixth district of Maryland in the United States House of Representatives from 1793 to 1797, and again from 1799 to 1801. The 6th district that he represented was in the north-east corner of Maryland, bordering Pennsylvania and Delaware, and did not cover any of the area that had been in the sixth district before the 1792 redistricting.Atlans of Political Parties in Congress, pp. 71–72. Charles Sterrett Ridgely
Charles Sterrett Ridgely (1781 – 1847) was an American land developer and legislator. Biography Charles parents were John Sterrett a privateer, and Deborah Ridgley. His father purchased 1,696 acres patented as Felicity from Mathias Hammond settling in what is now Howard County Maryland. Charles Sterrett graduated St. Johns College in 1802. In June 1810 Charles purchased 567 acres of the family estate from his mother and commissioned Oakland Manor, which is situated in the center of the current Rouse Company land development project Columbia. Changing his last name from Sterrett to Ridgely to be in line for inheritance of his great uncle's estate ( Capt. Charles Ridgely of Hampton), Charles accumulated 2,300 acres of land. Daniel Hiester
Daniel Hiester (June 25, 1747 – March 7, 1804) was an American political and military leader from the Revolutionary War period to the early 19th Century. Born in Berks County in the Province of Pennsylvania, he was a member of the Hiester Family political dynasty. He was the brother of John Hiester and Gabriel Hiester, cousin of Joseph Hiester, and the uncle of William Hiester and U.S. Rep. Daniel Hiester (1774–1834). Biography Hiester's father, also named Daniel Hiester, emigrated from Silesia in 1737 and settled in Goshenhoppen (now Bally), Pennsylvania, afterward purchasing a tract of several thousand acres in Berks County. After completing his education, the young Hiester engaged in the mercantile business in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He owned slaves as well.
