Christian VII Of Denmark
Christian VII (29 January 1749 – 13 March 1808) was a monarch of the House of Oldenburg who was King of Denmark–Norway and Duke of Schleswig and Holstein from 1766 until his death in 1808. For his motto he chose: "''Gloria ex amore patriae''" ("Glory through love of the fatherland"). Christian VII's reign was marked by mental illness and for most of his reign, Christian was only nominally king. His royal advisers changed depending on who won power struggles around the throne. From 1770 to 1772, his court physician Johann Friedrich Struensee was the ''de facto'' ruler of the country and introduced progressive reforms signed into law by Christian VII. Struensee was deposed by a coup in 1772, after which the country was ruled by Christian's stepmother, Juliane Marie of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, his half-brother Frederick, and the Danish politician Ove Høegh-Guldberg. Anna Klemens
Anna Klemens (1718–1800) was a Danish murder victim and an alleged witch. She was lynched and accused of sorcery in Brigsted at Horsens in Denmark, a lynching considered to be the last witch lynching in her country and, most likely, in all Scandinavia. Long after the legal courts in Denmark stopped executing witches after the execution of Anne Palles and Johan Pistorius, the belief led to private trials and lynching of alleged witches during the 18th century. In the countryside in Øster Grønning in Salling in 1722, the villagers apprehended a woman, Dorte Jensdatter, whom they suspected of having caused several deaths and problems in the village by magic, and held a private witch trial. When they were convinced, they tied her up in her own home and burned the house down with her in it. Several of the villagers were later sentenced to death for her murder. Christian Jensen Mørup
Christian Jensen Morup (4 November 1732 – 27 April 1800) Was a Danish architect who primarily worked at Jutland during the 1700s. Biography Mørup was born at Nørup in South Jutland and died in Ødum in East Jutland. Christian Mørup's parents were copyholders at Engelsholm Castle and his father a master builder. Mørup was taught the masonry craft by his father and was later educated in architectural drawing and planning by Nicolaus Hinrich Rieman. In 1760, the master builder of Bidstrup Manor died and Mørup was tasked with finishing the project. The following year he designed an extension for Aarhus Cathedral School which is today known as the White Building. The extension was extensively altered in 1847 when it was given an additional floor and a neoclassical appearance. In 1780 Mørup built Randers City hall which may be his best known work and which was protected as a listed building in 1918. Emil Aarestrup
Carl Ludvig Emil Aarestrup (4 December 1800 in Copenhagen – 21 July 1856 in Odense) was a Danish physician and poet, who had just one single volume of poetry published throughout his lifetime, yet this gave him a lasting place in Danish literature, due to the originality of the poems, as well as their persistent exploration of erotic themes, somewhat uncommon to the day. Life and career Aarestrup was born in Store Kongensgade in Copenhagen, in a period designated by the Napoleonic wars, which Denmark had been dragged into, and which left the country officially bankrupt. Nonetheless, this period is often characterized as the Danish Golden Age. His father was a customs officer in the service of the absolute monarchy and also a bon vivant. Rasmus Carl Stæger
Rasmus Carl Stæger (3 November 1800 – 9 February 1875) was a Danish attorney, civil servant, politician and entomologist. Biography Stæger was born and died in Copenhagen, Denmark. He took his legal degree in 1817. Over the course of his career, he served as a judge, elected official and financial advisor to the Danish government in the Bureau of Foreign Payments, National Debt Office and Council of Justice. From 1858 to 1871 he was a member of Frederiksberg Parish Council, from 1859 to 1862 he was deputy chairman and then until 1871 mayor of Frederiksberg. As an entomologist, his foci were Dolichopodidae, Sepsidae and Chironomidae. Stæger’s Diptera collection is in the Natural History Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen. Lassen County, California
Lassen County () is a county in the northeastern portion of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 32,730. The county seat and only incorporated city is Susanville. Lassen County comprises the Susanville, California, micropolitan statistical area. A former farming, mining and lumber area, its economy now depends on employment at one federal and two state prisons; the former in Herlong and the latter two in Susanville. In 2007, half the adults in Susanville worked in one of the facilities. History Lassen County was formed on April 1, 1864, from parts of Plumas and Shasta counties following the two-day conflict known as the Sagebrush War, also called the Roop County War, that started on February 15, 1863. Peter Lassen
Peter Lassen (October 31, 1800 – April 26, 1859), later known in Spanish as Don Pedro Lassen, was a Danish-born Californian ranchero and gold prospector. Born in Denmark, Lassen immigrated at age 30 to Massachusetts, before eventually finally moving to California (then a part of Mexico). In California, Lassen became a Mexican citizen and received the vast Rancho Bosquejo from Governor Manuel Micheltorena. He is best known as the eponym of Lassen County, California, Lassen Peak, and Lassen Volcanic National Park. Early life Peter Lassen was born in Farum, Denmark, and immigrated in 1830 to Boston, Massachusetts. Born to Johanne Sophie Westergaard and Lars Nielsen, Peter was baptized at the age of one week on December 7, 1800.
