Herman Wilhelm Bissen
Herman Wilhelm Bissen (13 October 1798 – 10 March 1868) was a Danish sculptor. Biography Bissen was born at Schleswig in the Duchy of Schleswig. He was the son of Christian Gottlieb Wilhelm Bissen (1766-1847), a farmer, and Anna Margrethe Dorothea Elfendal (1763-1848). He was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1816 to 1823. In 1824, he was awarded a travel scholarship which enabled him to travel to Rome. The stay in Rome extended over 10 years during which time he became an assistant to Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. Under the influence of Thorvaldsen, his style changed from romanticism to neo-classicism. In early 1834, Bissen left Rome to return to Copenhagen where he was awarded a professorship at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts following the death of his predecessor, Hermann Ernst Freund. Johan Zoëga
Johan Zoëga (7 October 1742 - 29 December 1788) was a Danish entomologist and botanist. Peter Frederik Suhm
Peter Frederik Suhm (18 October 1728 – 7 September 1798), was a Danish historian. Biography Suhm studied at the University of Copenhagen from 1746 to 1751, and one of his teachers was Ludvig Holberg. In 1749 he translated a comedy of Plautus and a French theatrical piece. In 1751 he traveled to Trondheim together with the Danish historian Gerhard Schøning, with whom he continued to collaborate over the following years. Emil Normann
Emil Wilhelm Normann (18 December 1798 – 21 June 1881) was a Danish painter and naval officer. Biography Normann, who initially developed his painting abilities through his own resources, became a student in Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg's private school in 1825. Despite numerous interruptions including two voyages to the West Indies in 1823 and 1830, Normann and Eckersberg kept in touch. Indeed, it was Normann's corvette that Eckersberg painted in 1827 and in 1834, as they were sailing around Zealand on the maiden voyage of the " Dronning Marie", the two went off in a rowing boat to paint the vessel in the Great Belt. Normann continued to study marine painting as a component of his education as an officer, learning to distinguish between the manoevres of the various types of ship.
