Catharina Ebba Horn
Catharina Ebba Horn af Åminne, (27 May 1720 – 12 September 1781 in Jakobsberg), was a Swedish noble and the second official royal mistress of King Frederick I of Sweden from 1745 to 1748. She was one of two official royal mistresses in Sweden. She had no influence over state affairs, but she did patronise careers through her powerful connections and her position. Biography Background Catharina Ebba Horn was born the child of the Colonel Baron Krister Horn and Anna Regina Sjöblad. She was the sister of Count Fredric Horn af Åminne (1725-1796) and Gustaf Adolf Horn af Åminne (1721-1793). When the official mistress of the king, Hedvig Taube, died in 1744 the royal court was in search for a replacement. The king had at this point a bad reputation because of his open and frequent use of prostitutes from the streets and his alcoholism. Anna Maria Thalén
Anna Maria Thalén (1781-1851) was a Swedish fashion trader. She belonged to the leading in her profession in early 19th-century Stockholm and are mentioned in contemporary memoirs and diary literature. Anna Maria Thalén was married to the candle manufacturer Vilhelm Casper Thalén. She is referred to as "Fashion maker or Fashion trader", milliner and trader of accessories. Officially, she sold accessories and a number of fashion items such as shawls and feathers, repaired, remade and washed such items, and provided her clients with the names of seamstresses and other fashion workers with whom she worked. This profession was a result of the fact that seamstresses worked in a grey zone prior to '' the abolition of the guilds in 1846'' and formally only allowed to repair and remake old clothes so as not to intrude upon the taylors' guild privilege, while in practice, they were both tolerated by the authorities and favored by the clients. Carl Fredrik Af Wingård
Carl Fredrik af Wingård (born 26 September 1781 in Stockholm, died 19 September 1851) was a Swedish Lutheran archbishop of the Church of Sweden, Professor at Uppsala University, and politician. He served as Archbishop of Uppsala 1839–1851. He was also holder of seat 10 in the Swedish Academy. Biography His noble title (''af'') was added to his family name Wingård already in 1799, as he was the son of a bishop, Johan Wingård, who became his predecessor in the Diocese of Gothenburg. He was cousin to the poet Johan Börjesson. Af Wingård studied at the Uppsala University and eventually became professor there in 1810. In 1818 he was ordained priest and 8 July 1818 he became bishop of Gothenburg. From all reports, af Wingård seems to have been a humanistic teacher and professor, gentle and caring, especially towards students. Margaretha Heijkenskjöld
Margaretha Charlotta Heijkensköld (19 August 1781 – 29 July 1834, Remla, Syria), was a Swedish traveler and a dress reformer. She attracted a lot of attention from her contemporaries by her journeys. Margaretha Heijkensköld was the daughter of the noble Councillor Detlof Heijkensköld the Younger (1751–1824) and Lovisa Ulrica Victorin (1756-1825). Late in life, she inherited a fortune, which she used to finance her interest in foreign travel and the study of foreign culture. She was described as an independent person with a great ability to adapt. She never married, and the fact that she traveled, and traveled alone, in a period when women seldom did the first and never the second, drew a lot of attention. She visited Paris, Vienna and Italy before she traveled in the Middle East. She died in Romla in Syria after a visit in Jerusalem. Notes and drawings from her travels are preserved.
