Cornelius Høyer
Cornelius Høyer (26 February 1771 – 2 June 1804) was a Danish painter, mainly known for his work in miniatures. Within his special trade, he was among the virtuosos of his day and won an international reputation. Early life and education Høyer was born at the Kronborg Rifle Factory. From an early age he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, studying under Carl Gustaf Pilo and Louis Tocqué, and later continued his education in Paris where Jean-Baptiste Masse taught him miniature painting. A visit to Italy in 1767 introduced him to Rosalba Carriera and he learned new skills, including the special technique of painting on ivory. Career In 1769, Høyer was appointed Miniature Painter to the Danish Court and the following year he became a member of the Academy. Visits to several European courts, including those in Stockholm, Saint Petersburg and Berlin, contributed to his increasing international reputation. Margrethe von der Lühe (16 February 1741– 1 October 1826) was a Danish courtier; ''overhofmesterinde'' to the queen of Denmark–Norway, Caroline Matilda of Great Britain, from 1768 to 1770, and the queen dowager, Juliana Maria of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, from 1772 to 1784. Life Margrethe von der Lühe was the daughter of count Christian Christopher Holck and Ermegaard Sophie von Winterfeldt and the sister of Conrad Holck, the favorite of king Christian VII of Denmark. She was inscribed in the Protestant convent Roskilde adelige Kloster in 1750. Margrethe von der Lühe served as lady-in-waiting to princess Louise of Denmark in 1766-68. She married baron Volrad August von der Lühe (1705-1778) in 1767. Charlotte Elisabeth Henriette Holstein née ''zu Inn- und Knyphausen'' (3 February 1741 – 18 May 1809, Vallø) was a Danish noblewoman. She served as Overhofmesterinde to Denmark's queen consort Caroline Matilda of Great Britain in 1770-1772. Life By birth she was ''friherreinde'' (baroness) zu Inn- und Knyphausen. On 20 May 1769, she married Christian Frederik Holstein, lensgrev (von) Holstein. In 1770, she was appointed Mistress of the Robes to Denmark's queen consort Caroline Matilda of Great Britain in succession to Margrethe von der Lühe. She was a lady of the Ordre de l'Union Parfaite (1770). Christian VI Of Denmark
Christian VI (30 November 1699 – 6 August 1746) was King of Denmark and Norway from 1730 to 1746. The eldest surviving son of Frederick IV and Louise of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, he is considered one of Denmark-Norway's more anonymous kings, but he was a skilled politician, best known for his authoritarian regime. He was the first king of the Oldenburg dynasty to refrain from entering in any war. During his reign both compulsory confirmation (1736) and a public, nationwide school system (1739) were introduced. His chosen motto was "''Deo et populo''" (for God and the people). ''Niels Klim's Underground Travels'', originally published in Latin as ''Nicolai Klimii Iter Subterraneum'' (1741), is a satirical science-fiction/fantasy novel written by the Norwegian-Danish author Ludvig Holberg. His only novel, it describes a utopian society from an outsider's point of view, and often pokes fun at diverse cultural and social topics such as morality, science, sexual equality, religion, governments, and philosophy. Plot summary The novel starts with a foreword that ''assures'' that everything in the story is a real account of the title character's exploits in the Underworld. The story is set, according to the book, in the Norwegian harbor town of Bergen in 1664, after Klim returns from Copenhagen, where he has studied philosophy and theology at the University of Copenhagen and graduated magna cum laude.
