Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, the mainland territory of which comprises the western and northernmost portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The list of Norwegian monarchs ( no, kongerekken or ''kongerekka'') begins in 872: the traditional dating of the Battle of Hafrsfjord, after which victorious King Harald Fairhair merged several petty kingdoms into that of his father. Christian VI
Christian VI (30 November 1699 – 6 August 1746) was King of Denmark and Norway from 1730 to 1746. The eldest surviving son of Frederick IV and Louise of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, he is considered one of Denmark-Norway's more anonymous kings, but he was a skilled politician, best known for his authoritarian regime. He was the first king of the Oldenburg dynasty to refrain from entering in any war. During his reign both compulsory confirmation (1736) and a public, nationwide school system (1739) were introduced. His chosen motto was "''Deo et populo''" (for God and the people). Early years Christian was born on 30 November 1699 at Copenhagen Castle as the second but eldest surviving son of King Frederick IV of Denmark by his first consort, Louise of Mecklenburg-Güstrow. Arendal (town)
Arendal () is a city in Agder county, Norway. The city is the administrative centre of the municipality of Arendal and the seat of the County Governor of Agder. The city also includes a small area in the neighbouring municipality of Grimstad as well. In Norway, Arendal is considered a which can be translated as either a "town" or "city" in English. The city has a population (2019) of 37,815 and a population density of . The city does cross municipal boundaries due to its growth over the years. Anders Porsanger
Anders Porsanger (1735 – 10 October 1780) was a Sámi linguist and the first Sámi who received a higher education. In 1752, he was invited to assist professor Knud Leem in his efforts to create a Sámi dictionary, all the while pursuing his studies at the Trondheim Cathedral School. Porsanger continued his theological education in Copenhagen and successfully completed it in 1761. In the same year, he was designated a missionary to Varanger. In 1764, Porsanger returned to Trondheim to provide further support to Knud Leem while concurrently serving as a hospital priest. In 1769, the College of Mission in Copenhagen summoned him to address a proposal from the Hungarian Jesuit scientist-priest János Sajnovics. This proposal suggested that the Hungarian alphabet should be employed for writing in the Sámi language.
