Frederick IV (Danish: ''Frederik''; 11 October 1671 – 12 October 1730) was King of Denmark and Norway from 1699 until his death. Frederick was the son of Christian V of Denmark-Norway and his wife Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. Early life Frederick was born on 11 October 1671 at Copenhagen Castle as the eldest son of King Christian V and his spouse Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. The newborn prince was baptized the same evening with the name Frederick by the royal confessional Hans Leth. His grandfather King Frederick III had died a year and a half before he was born, and as the eldest son of the ruling king he was thus crown prince from birth. At the age of 18, he was given a seat on the Council of State as the heir apparent to the throne. Ulrik Adolf Holstein
Ulrik Adolf Holstein, Greve til Holsteinborg (14 April 1664 – 21 August 1737) was a Danish nobleman and statesman. Life He was born in Schleswig-Holstein. His father, Adam Christopher von Holstein (1631-1690) owned Netzeband and Buchholtz in Mecklenburg; his mother was Cathrine Christine Reventlow of Futterkamp (1647-1704). He was the brother of Christian Frederik von Holstein (1678-1747), Ditlev von Holstein (1669-1721) and Henning Christopher von Holstein (1679-1753). In 1679 he became a page to Crown Prince Frederick and found favour, becoming a noble (''freiherr'') in 1700. He was removed from court in 1703 after attempting to dissuade the King from marrying royal mistress Elisabeth Helene von Vieregg (1679–1704). Sostrup Castle
Sostrup Castle is a Denmark, Danish castle in Gjerrild parish, once in Djurs Nørre Herred, now in Norddjurs Municipality, Denmark. The main building was begun in 1599 and completed in 1606. The castle occupies 20 hectares, with 239.8 hectares of adjacent farm and woodland. The castle is located on a rectangular bank west of a meadow and former seabed connected to the sea between Denmark and Sweden. Extensive farm and employees' quarters are situated west of the castle. Possibly a farm where Sostrup Castle now lies was owned by King Christopher II of Denmark, Christopher II, who pawned "Svorttorp" in 1327. The estate is first mentioned in writing in 1388, when Jens Lagesen Udsen was listed as owner, according to a parchment letter now kept in Sostrup's vault. In 1725 Sostrup became the manor house in the County of Scheel, which bore the name of Scheel until the county was wound up in 1823. Peder Als
Peder Als (16 May 1725 – 8 July 1775) was a Danish historical and portrait painter. Life Als was born at Copenhagen in 1725, and studied under Carl Gustaf Pilo whose style was a considerable influence on him. He first attracted attention in 1743, when he sold a painting of biblical subject to the King of Denmark. He attended the Kunstakademiet (the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts), and while still there gained recognition as a portraitist with a series of paintings of knights of the order of the Dannebrog. He won the academy's gold medal in 1755, and travelled to Rome and Paris in 1757–62. In Rome he entered the school of Anton Raphael Mengs, who became another powerful influence on him. He spent most of his time in Rome copying the pictures of Raphael and Andrea del Sarto, which it is said that he did with great accuracy. He also copied Correggio and Titian.
