Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne
Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne PC (Ire) (1642–1723) was an Irish soldier and politician. In his youth, he fought in his cousin Sir George Hamilton's regiment for the French in the Franco-Dutch War. About 1678 he obtained a commission in the Irish Army. King James II appointed him to his Irish Privy Council in 1685. During the Williamite War Hamilton fought for the Prince of Orange defending Coleraine in 1689, fighting at the Boyne in 1690, fording the Shannon at the Siege of Athlone in June 1691, and fighting at Aughrim in July. King George I ennobled him in 1715. This Gustavus Hamilton, Viscount, must not be confused with Gustavus Hamilton, governor of Enniskillen. William Handcock (1676–1723)
William Handcock (1676 – August 1723) was an Irish politician. He was the eldest son of Thomas Handcock and his wife Dorothy Green. Handcock entered the Irish House of Commons in 1703, representing the constituency of Athlone until 1714. He sat for Dublin City from 1721 until his death two years later. He married Sarah Warburton, daughter of Richard Warburton and had by her six sons and four daughters. Esther Vanhomrigh
Esther Vanhomrigh or Van Homrigh (known by the pseudonym Vanessa; c. 1688 – 2 June 1723), an Irish woman of Dutch (ethnic group), Dutch descent, was a longtime lover and correspondent of Jonathan Swift. Swift's letters to her were published after her death. Her fictional name "Vanessa (name), Vanessa" was created by Swift by taking ''Van'' from her surname, Vanhomrigh, and adding ''Esse'', the pet form of her first name, Esther. She was fictionalized as "Vanessa" in Swift's poem ''Cadenus and Vanessa'' (1713). In the poem, he wrote: :''Each girl, when pleased with what is taught,'' :''Will have the teacher in her thought.'' Life Esther was the daughter of Bartholomew Van Homrigh, a merchant of Amsterdam and afterwards of Dublin, who was appointed commissary of the stores by King William upon his expedition into Ireland: he was Lord Mayor of Dublin 1697–8. Baron Alington
Baron Alington was a title that was created three times in British history. The first creation came in the Peerage of Ireland on 28 July 1642 when William Alington was made Baron Alington, of Killard in the County of Cork. His second son, the third Baron (who succeeded in the title on the early death of his elder brother), was a Major-General in the English Army. On 5 December 1682 he was created Baron Alington, of Wymondley in the County of Hertford, in the Peerage of England. The English barony became extinct on the death of his young son Giles, the fourth Baron, in 1691. The late Baron was succeeded in the Irish barony by his uncle, the fifth Baron. He was a captain in the army. On his death, in February 1723, the Irish barony became extinct as well. Captain Hildebrand Alington, 5th Baron Alington of Killard (3 August 1641 – 11 February 1722/23) was an Irish peer, the son of William Alington, 1st Baron Alington of Killard, and Lady Alington, the former Elizabeth Tollemache. He was one of the couple's youngest children, and his forename was a family name that honoured their Norman ancestor, Sir Hildebrand de Alington. He became an army officer, receiving a captain's commission from King James II of England in 1685.
