Frederick IV Of Denmark
Frederick IV (Danish: ''Frederik''; 11 October 1671 – 12 October 1730) was King of Denmark and Norway from 1699 until his death. Frederick was the son of Christian V of Denmark-Norway and his wife Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. Early life Frederick was born on 11 October 1671 at Copenhagen Castle as the eldest son of King Christian V and his spouse Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel. The newborn prince was baptized the same evening with the name Frederick by the royal confessional Hans Leth. His grandfather King Frederick III had died a year and a half before he was born, and as the eldest son of the ruling king he was thus crown prince from birth. At the age of 18, he was given a seat on the Council of State as the heir apparent to the throne. As crown prince, Frederick broadened his education by travelling in Europe, led by his chamberlain Ditlev Wibe. He was particularly impressed by the architecture in Italy and, on his return to Denmark, asked his father, Christia ...

Danish East India Company
The Danish East India Company ( da, Ostindisk Kompagni) refers to two separate Danish-Norwegian chartered companies. The first company operated between 1616 and 1650. The second company existed between 1670 and 1729, however, in 1730 it was re-founded as the Asiatic Company ( da, Asiatisk Kompagni). First company The first Danish East India Company was chartered in 1616 under King Christian IV and focused on trade with India. The first expedition, under Admiral Gjedde, took two years to reach Ceylon, losing more than half their crew. The island had been claimed by Portugal by the time they arrived but on 10May 1620, a treaty was concluded with the Kingdom of Kandy and the foundation laid of a settlement at Trincomalee on the island's east coast. They occupied the colossal Koneswaram temple in May 1620 to begin fortification of the peninsula before being expelled by the Portuguese. Norske Løve (1704)
''Norske Løve'' was a ship with 36 cannons owned and operated by the Danish East India Company. History The ship's bell is dated to 1704, although a ''Norske Løve'' was recorded as running a cargo of slaves for the Danish East India Company in the Indian Ocean in 1682. Similarly, a ''Norske Løve'' is recorded calling at the Danish colony of Tranquebar in 1690 and 1706, although this may have been one of the numerous Dano-Norwegian Navy vessels of that name. ''Norske Løve'' left Copenhagen on 4 December 1707. She was hit by lightning on December 18. On the 19th, her master Roluf Meincke decided to cut the main mast, which brought the mizzen mast down with it. Around noon the same day, a breaker hit her, killing 14 men and damaging the ship further. On 31 December 1707, ''Norske Løve'' sank in Lambavík in the Faroe Islands. Around 100 men survived. Salvage of the ship began immediately, but a landslide during the night buried it, whence it has not been recovered. The ship' ...

Bendix Grodtschilling The Younger
Bendix Grodtschilling the Younger (1 December 1655  – 10 March 1707) was a Danish painter. Grodtschilling was born in Itzehoe, the son of the painter Bendix Grodtschilling the Elder's first marriage. He was in France and Italy and trained as a painter, but initially was only an insignificant and little fertile artist in portrait art. He returned to Denmark around 1670, and already in 1672 it is documented that he received payment of three skillings for works he had delivered for Rosenborg Castle. His father gave him regular work of the royal court, and in 1690 he was named official royal court painter, which paid him 100 crowns annually. When his father died the same year, followed Grodtschilling him in office as manager. Among his paintings are: Grodtschilling the Elder's portrait, now at Rosenborg Castle, Christian V of Denmark on horseback, at the old Copenhagen Castle, and an "optical piece": the Oldenburg kings with Christian V in the middle. He also had drawings ...
