Lucas Debes
Lucas Jacobsøn Debes (1623 in Stubbekøbing – 1675) was a Danish priest, topographer and celebrated writer about the Faroe Islands. He wrote the first book about the Faroes, which was printed (and translated into English and German) and drew the first detailed map of the Islands. Biography Debes was born at Stubbekøbing of the island of Falster in Denmark. He graduated from school at Slagelse in 1647. He came to the Faroe Islands in 1652 as a curate. The next year he became a parish vicar in Suðurstreymoy and later he became the new head of the Latin school in Tórshavn. He was both well-educated and hard-working, and the school improved considerately during his time there. After he settled in Tórshavn he married Anne Rasmusdatter, widow of his predecessor, in accordance with local Faroese tradition. However, since his predecessor had left behind him not only a widow but also nine children, it meant that money was very scarce and therefore he was often in debt. This i ...

Peder Munk
Peder Munk of Estvadgård (1534–1623), was a Danish navigator, politician, and ambassador, who was in charge of the fleet carrying Anne of Denmark to Scotland. The events of the voyage led to witch trials and executions in Denmark and Scotland. Career Peder Munk was the son of Ludvig Munk (d. 1537) and Kirstin Pedersdatte Lykke. He was born at Lønborggård, Lønborg, Ringkøbing, Denmark, on 22 April 1534. Peder's younger brother Ludvig Munk was also a sailor and a soldier, whose daughter Kirsten Munk married Christian IV of Denmark in 1615. Peder Munk's main estate from 1566 was Estvadgård in Skive Kommune. In 1575 Peder Munk was made Admiral of Denmark, the Admiral of the Realm or 'Rigsadmiral', and in 1588 was one of the council, the Rigsraadet of regents for Christian IV. Mogens Pedersøn
Mogens Pedersøn (also ''Mogens Pedersen'', ''Magno Petreo''; c. 1583 – January or February 1623) was a Danish instrumentalist and composer. He is considered the most important Danish-born composer before Buxtehude. Life Early in his career he entered the service of the Danish monarch, Christian IV. In 1599 he was selected to accompany Melchior Borchgrevinck and two other Danish court musicians to study with Giovanni Gabrieli in Venice, returning to Denmark in 1600. After continuing to study with Borchgrevinck, he was appointed an instrumentalist member of the royal chapel in 1603. In 1605 Pedersøn undertook a further longer trip to study with Gabrieli with the support of King Christian, remaining in Venice for four years. During this time he published his first book of madrigals in 1608. These Italian madrigals are polyphonic compositions for five voices in a contemporary late Renaissance style. Sivert Beck
Sivert Beck (18 November 1566 – 2 January 1623) was a Danish civil servant and landowner. He served as treasurer (''rentemester'') from 1596 until his death. Early life Beck was born in the Bishop's House in Roskilde, the son of district judge Lauge Beck (c. 1530– 1607) and Agate Grubbe (1533–1623). He spent 1580–88 abroad, partly accompanied by his nephew, Sivert Grubbe. He studied at the universities in Wittenberg, Leipzig and Jena. Career In 1589 Beck began working at the Danish Chancellery. In 1590 he assumed the title of secretary. In this capacity, he was sent to Ribe to oversee that Anders Sørensen Vedel transferred his historical collections to Dr. Niels Krag (1595). On 16 November 1596, he was appointed treasurer (''rentemester''). He remained in the office until his death.
