13 Engines
13 Engines was a Canadian alternative rock band active in the 1980s and 1990s. Overview Formed in 1985 as The Ikons, the band consisted of four York University students: vocalist and songwriter John Critchley, guitarist and songwriter Mike Robbins, bassist Jim Hughes and drummer Grant Ethier. They released a self-titled independent cassette in 1986 before changing their name to 13 Engines. This name was a reference to the automobile industry in Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan, which were the first markets to embrace the band. They spent a lot of time in Michigan and recorded their first two albums there--''Before Our Time'' in 1987 and ''Byram Lake Blues'' in 1989; both were released by the UK label Nocturnal Records. One song from ''Byram Lake Blues'', "Beached", became a college hit and, in 1990, the band was signed to SBK Records in the United States and EMI in Canada. Roadside Attraction & Another Roadside Attraction was a travelling music-and-arts summer festival in Canada in the 1990s."Forget h.o.r.d.e., Lilith Fair and Lollapalooza, Another Roadside Attraction is the best touring festival on the continent". Headlined by The Tragically Hip with a different lineup of supporting bands for each of the three tours, the festival travelled across Canada for between eight and ten dates in each of 1993, 1995 and 1997. Each show usually lasted roughly eight hours. The name was taken from the Tom Robbins novel ''Another Roadside Attraction''. The Hip were originally thinking of calling it ''Heksenketel'', which is Dutch for "witches' cauldron"; although that name was not used for the concert festival, it was later used as the title of a concert video recorded on the 1993 tour. NXNE
North by Northeast (or NXNE) is an annual music and arts festival held each June in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The festival's main focus is live music, but it also includes an eSports gaming tournament, comedy, a conversations series, a flea market and more. The festival events happen in a variety venues with free events on Canada's largest street, Yonge Street with events on the Street and in Yonge Dundas Square. In addition to full-time staff, the festival also has about 1,000 volunteers in festival operations. The Tea Party is a Canadian rock band with industrial rock, blues, progressive rock, and Middle Eastern music influences, dubbed " Moroccan roll" by the media. Active throughout the 1990s and up until 2005, the band re-formed in 2011. Moist is a Canadian rock band that formed in 1992. It consists of David Usher as lead vocalist, Mark Makoway on lead guitars, Jonathan Gallivan on guitars, Kevin Young on keyboards, Francis Fillion on drums, and Jeff Pearce on bass. Drummer Paul Wilcox left the band just before its hiatus in 2000. Moist was signed by EMI Music in 1994 and released three studio albums in the 1990s, becoming a staple of Canadian rock music. Shortly after releasing a compilation album in 2001, the band underwent an unplanned hiatus for over a decade, and then became officially re-established in June 2013.
