131st Ohio General Assembly
The One Hundred Thirty-first Ohio General Assembly was a meeting of the Ohio state legislature, composed of the Ohio State Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives. It convened in Columbus, Ohio on January 5, 2015 and is scheduled to adjourn January 2, 2017. The apportionment of legislative districts is based on the 2010 United States census and 2011 redistricting plan. Both the Ohio Senate and Ohio House of Representatives were retained by the Ohio Republican Party. Ohio Statehouse
The Ohio Statehouse is the List of state and territorial capitols in the United States, state capitol building and seat of government for the U.S. state of Ohio. The Greek Revival building is located on Capitol Square in Downtown Columbus, Ohio, Downtown Columbus. The capitol houses the Ohio General Assembly, consisting of the Ohio House of Representatives, House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate, Senate. It also contains the ceremonial offices of the List of Governors of Ohio, governor, Lieutenant Governor of Ohio, lieutenant governor, state Ohio State Treasurer, treasurer, and state Ohio State Auditor, auditor. Sarah LaTourette
Sarah LaTourette (born May 25, 1983) is an American politician who served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from the 76th district and is now serving as the executive director of Ohio Family and Children First, a partnership of government agencies and community organizations that works to coordinate services for children in need. Career The daughter of former Congressman Steve LaTourette, she worked in both the private and public sectors before seeking public office. She initially sought to challenge incumbent Republican Matt Lynch in a primary election, but he opted out of a re-election bid to run for the United States Congress. Dorothy Liggett Pelanda (born March 1, 1956) is an American lawyer and former Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Personal Pelanda is married to Sam Gerhardstein, retired Governmental Affairs Director for Columbia Gas of Ohio. She has three children: Brian Pelanda, Doug Pelanda and Zoe Pelanda. Career After graduating from the University of Akron School of Law, Pelanda returned to Marysville, Ohio where she began a career in law. James J. Buchy (born September 24, 1940) is a former Republican member of the Ohio House of Representatives. He served two stints in the House, first from 1983 to 2000, and again from 2011 to 2016. Kirk Schuring
Kirk Schuring (born September 17, 1952) is an American politician serving as a member of the Ohio Senate. He served as interim Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, following the resignation of Speaker Cliff Rosenberger. Rosenberger resigned amid revelations he was under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was previously a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1993 to 2002, and from 2011 to 2018. Schuring also previously served in the Ohio Senate from 2003 to 2010. He was the Republican nominee for Ohio's 16th congressional district in the 2008 election. In 2018, Schuring was re-elected to the Ohio Senate, where represents the 29th district. Louis "Lou" Gentile (born July 28, 1979) is an American politician formerly serving as the senator for the 30th District of the Ohio Senate. He was also previously a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, serving briefly in 2011 prior to his appointment to the Senate. Edna Brown
Edna Brown (April 7, 1940 – January 1, 2022) was an American politician, member of the Democratic Party and Minority Whip of the Ohio Senate, serving the 11th District from 2011 to 2018. She also served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2001 to 2010. Career Edna R. Brown had a 32-year career as an employee with the city of Toledo, followed by a six-year tenure on Toledo City Council. Charleta Tavares
Charleta B. Tavares is a former member of the Ohio Senate. She represented the 15th District from 2011 to 2018. Her district included much of central Franklin County, including the cities of Bexley and Grandview Heights with the majority encompassing the historic neighborhoods of Columbus, Ohio. Joseph L. Schiavoni (born September 21, 1979) is an American politician and judge who served as a member of the Ohio Senate and Ohio Senate Minority Leader. A member of the Democratic Party, Schiavoni was elected in 2020 to serve as a Judge in the Mahoning County, Ohio Court System. Early life Schiavoni was born in Columbus, Ohio, and grew up on the south side of Youngstown, Ohio, before moving to Boardman, Ohio, where he attended Boardman High School.
