124th Ohio General Assembly
The One Hundred Twenty-fourth Ohio General Assembly was the legislative body of the state of Ohio in 2001 and 2002. In this General Assembly, both the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives were controlled by the Republican Party. In the Senate, there were 21 Republicans and 12 Democrats. In the House, there were 60 Republicans and 39 Democrats. It was also the last General Assembly to use redistricted legislative districts after the 1990 United States Census. Ohio Senate
The Ohio Senate is the upper house of the Ohio General Assembly. The State Senate, which meets in the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, first convened in 1803. Senators are elected for four year terms, staggered every two years such that half of the seats are contested at each election. Even numbered seats and odd numbered seats are contested in separate election years. The president of the Ohio Senate presides over the body when in session, and is currently Matt Huffman. Currently, the Senate consists of 25 Republicans and eight Democrats, with the Republicans controlling three more seats than the 22 required for a supermajority vote. Senators are limited to two consecutive terms. Randy Gardner (Ohio Politician)
Randall L. Gardner (born 1958) is an American politician, he formerly served as a Republican member of the Ohio Senate, serving the 2nd District from 2013–2018. He formerly held the same district from 2001 to 2008, and was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1985 to 2000, and from 2008 to 2012. In January 2019 Governor Mike Dewine appointed Gardner as the Chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Life and career Gardner first entered Ohio politics in 1985, when he was appointed to a seat vacated by former State Representative Robert Brown. Jay Hottinger
Jay Hottinger (born December 1, 1969) is a Republican member of the Ohio Senate for the 31st district. A longtime member of the Ohio General Assembly, Hottinger has served in both the Ohio House of Representatives and the Senate since 1995. Richard Finan
Richard H. Finan (born August 16, 1934) is an American Republican politician who formerly served in the Ohio General Assembly. An attorney, Finan was initially elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1972, representing a suburban Cincinnati district. He was easily reelected in 1974 and 1976. In 1978, Senator Michael Maloney left the Ohio Senate to become Hamilton County Administrator. As a result, his Senate seat became open, and Finan was appointed by Senate Republicans to succeed him. He ran for election to a full term that November, and won. He was reelected in 1982, and went on to serve as Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee. He was reelected again in 1986. Lance Mason
Lance Timothy Mason (born August 26, 1967) is a convicted murderer, former politician, government official, and judge, who served in various offices in and representing Cleveland, Ohio. As a judge, he served on the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. He was a member of the Ohio Senate, representing the 25th District from 2007 to 2008. Michael DeBose
Michael DeBose (December 16, 1953 – April 23, 2012) was an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives. He was first elected to that position on February 13, 2002. Biography DeBose attended Cleveland State University, where he earned a BA in Mass Media Communications. He was an ordained and licensed minister of the Zion Chapel Baptist church. He was married with three children. He was the primary sponsor of four bills, including one to create a mandatory pink sex offender license plate so people can better identify them, saying "The primary reason they can prey is because they're camouflaged from who they really are." Tom Roberts (Ohio Politician)
Tom Roberts is an Ohio Democratic politician who formerly served as a member of the Ohio General Assembly. Career Ohio House of Representatives When Ed Orlett resigned from the Ohio House of Representatives in 1986, House Democrats appointed Roberts to serve the remainder of his term. He went on to win election that same November, and again in 1988 and 1990. In 1992, Roberts was challenged by his predecessor, Ed Orlett, for the Democratic nomination, however Roberts ultimately won the primary election. Edna Brown
Edna Brown (April 7, 1940 – January 1, 2022) was an American politician, member of the Democratic Party and Minority Whip of the Ohio Senate, serving the 11th District from 2011 to 2018. She also served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2001 to 2010. Career Edna R. Joseph Koziura
Joseph Koziura (born March 8, 1946) is an American Democratic politician who served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1985 to 1995 and again from 2001 until 2010. Life and career A native of Lorain, Ohio, Koziura, born on March 8, 1953, first ran and won a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives in 1984. Jim McGregor (born December 6, 1948) is a Republican politician who was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 20th District from 2001 to 2008.
