Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the listener must have a broadcast radio receiver (''radio''). It broadcasts on 101.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 100 watts ( class A1) using an omnidirectional antenna. The station also operates a co-channel repeater, CHAI-FM-1 in Candiac, also on 101.9 FM. The use of two transmitters is in order to protect several co-channel and adjacent-channel stations in nearby areas, the closest being CIBL-FM and CINQ-FM in Montreal, plus co-channel CJSS-FM in Cornwall, Ontario. CFUV-FM
CFUV-FM is a campus/community radio station broadcasting on 101.9 FM in British Columbia, Canada. It serves the University of Victoria, Greater Victoria and, via cable, Vancouver Island and many areas in the Lower Mainland. It is owned and run by the University of Victoria Student Radio Society. CKVC, the precursor to CFUV was on air from 1965 until 1970 and had a broadcast range that included the Student Union Building as well as two student residence buildings. The campus radio returned in 1981 after the UVic Campus Radio Club formed. CFUV became Victoria's second FM radio station on December 17, 1984, broadcasting at 49.4 watts on 105.1 FM. CFRC-FM (101.9 MHz) is the non-commercial campus radio station at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The station has one of the longest radio histories in Canada, with experimental broadcasts dating back to 1922 and serves Queen's University students and faculty as well as the greater Kingston community. CFND-FM is a French language community campus radio station that operates at 101.9 FM in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, Canada. Owned by Amie du Quartier, the station received CRTC approval in 2007. The radio station is based at the École Notre-Dame, a primary school in Saint-Jérôme. The station's format, as per its license, is 23 hours of music, plus a 60-minute daily spoken word program, often broadcast during the school's lunch hour. CFLO-FM is a French-language Canadian radio station located in Mont-Laurier, Quebec. Owned and operated by Sonème inc. (an independent private company), it broadcasts on 104.7 MHz using a directional antenna with an average effective radiated power of 10,980 watts and a peak effective radiated power of 16,860 watts ( class B).
