007 First Light
''007 First Light'' is an upcoming action-adventure game developed and published by IO Interactive. Based on the ''James Bond'' franchise under license from Amazon MGM Studios, it will tell an original narrative inspired by List of James Bond novels and short stories, the novels and short stories by Ian Fleming, and the Portrayal of James Bond in film, long-running film franchise starring the character. The game will depict James Bond (literary character), James Bond's origin story, as he embarks on the mission he must complete to earn his Licence to kill (concept), licence to kill. Following the release of ''007 Legends'' in October 2012, publisher Activision had its non-exclusive licence to produce James Bond in video games, ''James Bond'' video games revoked by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Eon Productions, resulting in an extended hiatus for video games adapting the franchise. IO Interactive A/S (IOI) is a Danish video game developer and publisher based in Copenhagen, best known for creating and developing the ''Hitman'' and '' Kane and Lynch'' franchises. IO Interactive's most recent game is '' Hitman 3'', which was released in January 2021. Their next game will be '' 007 First Light'', to be released in 2026. The company was founded in September 1998 as a joint venture between the seven-man development team of Reto-Moto and film studio Nordisk Film. IO Interactive was acquired by publisher Eidos Interactive for in March 2004, which saw itself acquired by Square Enix and renamed as Square Enix Europe in 2009. In May 2017, Square Enix ceased funding for IO Interactive and started seeking a buyer for the studio.
