The Royal Society ( th, ราชบัณฑิตยสภา, , ) is the national academy of Thailand in charge of academic works of the government. The secretariat of the society is the Office of the Royal Society ( th, สำนักงานราชบัณฑิตยสภา, ), formerly known as the Royal Institute ( th, ราชบัณฑิตยสถาน, ). The office is an independent agency under the prime minister's supervision. The Royal Society was established on 19 April 1926 and was dissolved on 31 March 1934. The dissolved society was split into the Royal Institute and the Fine Arts Department. On 14 February 2015, the Royal Institute was reorganised. Its administrative council became the Royal Society, whilst the institute itself became the office of the society. Royal Institute Dictionary
The ''Royal Institute Dictionary'' (RID; th, พจนานุกรม ฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสถาน, ) is the official and prescriptive dictionary of Thai language, published by the Royal Society of Thailand. The Royal Society of Thailand has published four fully revised editions of the dictionary, and many intermittent reprintings with minor revisions. Each of the major revisions is associated with a significant year in Thai history, although in the case of the 1999 and 2011 editions, the actual publication date is a later year. Status The dictionary is the only prescriptive and official dictionary of Thai words. It has also frequently been used by the courts in interpreting the general meanings of the words in dispute, although the RIT has issued a statement that the dictionary is not intended to produce legal effect concerning cases. Royal Plaza (Thailand)
The Royal Plaza, or formally Dusit Palace Plaza (; ), and also known among Thais as Equestrian Statue Plaza (; ), is an important public square in the palace and government quarter of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. It is located in front of Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall in Dusit Palace, Dusit District, Bangkok, which was the former reception hall of the palace where King Chulalongkorn (Rama V; r. 1868–1910) once lived, and was later used as the first parliament building. At the center of the plaza is the Equestrian statue of King Chulalongkorn, the "Great beloved king". The square is rectangular shaped, about 500 metres long and 150 metres wide. An academy ( Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn ( th, ถนอม กิตติขจร, ; 11 August 1911 – 16 June 2004) was the leader of Thailand from 1963 to 1973, during which he staged a self-coup, until public protests which exploded into violence forced him to step down. His return from exile in 1976 sparked protests which led to a massacre of demonstrators, followed by a military coup. Early life Thanom Kittikachorn was born in Tak Province to Khun Amphan Kittikachorn and his wife, Mrs Linchee Kittikachorn. His family was of Thai Chinese descent. The ''Royal Thai Government Gazette'' (, ), frequently abbreviated to ''Government Gazette'' (GG) or ''Royal Gazette'' (RG), is the public journal and newspaper of record of Thailand. Laws passed by the government generally come into force after publication in the GG.
