Það Sem Enginn Sér
Iceland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 by Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson with the song "Það sem enginn sér". Ágúst was the winner of the Icelandic national final, '' Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 1989'', organised by Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). Before Eurovision Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 1989 The final was held on 30 March 1989 at the RÚV studios in Reykjavík, hosted by Jónas R. Jónsson. 5 songs competed, which were all shown as pre-recorded video clips, and the winner was chosen by the votes of 8 regional juries. At Eurovision Ágúst performed 20th on the night of the contest, held in Lausanne, Switzerland, following Greece and preceding Germany. Iceland did not manage to receive any points from all countries, placing 22nd (last) of 22 competing countries. The Icelandic jury awarded its 12 points to Cyprus. Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson
Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson (born 26 August 1969) is an Icelandic solo artist and a lead singer of the bands GusGus, Nýdönsk and Esja. Biography Daníel has been part of the local and international music scene since he started his career with Icelandic pop sensation Nýdönsk some 30 years ago. In 1989, he participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 for Iceland with the song "Það sem enginn sér". He finished in 22nd place, scoring no points. After releasing 5 albums with Nýdönsk, he produced an album with electronic rock group Bubbleflies. He then branched out into acting in the National and Municipal theatres, playing roles in West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar (Pontius Pilate) and Stone Free. Film directors Arni and Kinski approached him with playing a lead role in their short film Nautn. It was with this film project Daníel founded GusGus in 1995 with Kinski. Söngvakeppnin (known from 1986–1989 as Söngvakeppni sjónvarpsstöðva and in 1981, 1983 and 1990–2012 as Söngvakeppni sjónvarpsins, literally "The Television's Song Contest") is an annual music competition organised by Icelandic public broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). It determines the for the Eurovision Song Contest. Format The contest was first organised in 1981, although neither it nor its subsequent 1983 edition were used to determine any Eurovision Song Contest representatives until Iceland made its ESC debut in 1986. Since then, RÚV has used Söngvakeppni sjónvarpsins to select the Icelandic entry, but has also used an internal selection at times, between 1995 and 1999 and in 2004, 2005 and 2021. Björgvin Helgi Halldórsson (Alternate names: Bó Halldórsson, Björgvin Halldórsson or Bó Hall) (born 16 April 1951) is an Icelandic pop singer from Hafnarfjörður. He represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 with the song '' Núna'' (English: Now), ranked in 15th place with 31 points. Björgvin performed with Sigrún Hjálmtýsdóttir, amongst others, and released several solo albums. Björgvin took part in several TV shows.
