Wiener Kunstfilm, in full Wiener Kunstfilm-Industrie (English: "Vienna Art Film Industry"), was the first major Austrian film production company. Founded in 1910 as the Erste österreichische Kinofilms-Industrie, it was a pioneer in almost every field of silent film in Austria. History Wiener Kunstfilm was founded in January 1910 as the Erste österreichische Kinofilms-Industrie in Alsergrund in Vienna by the photographer Anton Kolm, his wife Luise née Veltée, daughter of the owner of a panopticon, and the cameraman Jacob Fleck. Wiener Kunstfilm was established at a time when the Austro-Hungarian cinema market was almost totally dominated by French companies. In order to be able to resist these financially powerful international companies, Wiener Kunstfilm, in its role as the first Austrian film production company, needed, and received, the full support of patriotic media and cinema proprietors. Alexander Kolowrat
Count Alexander " Sascha" Joseph von Kolowrat-Krakowsky (29 January 1886 – 4 December 1927) was an Austrian film producer of Bohemian-Czech descent from the House of Kolowrat. A pioneer of Austrian cinema, he founded the first major film studio ''Sascha-Film'' in Vienna. Life He was born in what is now Glen Ridge, New Jersey, which was then part of the now-neighboring town of Bloomfield. He was the son of Count (1852–1910) and his wife Nadine Freiin von Huppmann-Valbella (1858–1942), the daughter of a successful cigarette manufacturer from Saint Petersburg. He had three siblings: Bertha, Friedrich and Heinrich. A variety of customs and traditions are associated with Carnival celebrations in the German-speaking countries of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Mauer, Vienna
Mauer (German for ''"wall"''; Central Bavarian: ''Maua'') is a former village of Lower Austria that has been part of Vienna since 1938. Today's cadastral community belongs to the 23rd District of Vienna, called Liesing. In the west, Mauer borders the Vienna Woods. History A jasper mine was located in Mauer during the Neolithic. The first official mention of the village dates back to 1210. Wine production began during the Middle Ages, and still continues today. The Society of Jesus controlled the village from 1609 to 1773. In Biedermeier times Mauer was a famous Viennese summer retreat location. The first mayor took office in 1850, and the village was promoted to market town in 1902. Ludwig Ganghofer
Ludwig Ganghofer (7 July 1855 – 24 July 1920) was a German writer who became famous for his homeland novels. Biography He was born in Kaufbeuren, Bavaria, the son of forestry official August Ganghofer (1827–1900). His younger sister Ida (1863–1944) married the geologist and geographer Albrecht Penck in 1886, the geomorphologist Walther Penck was Ganghofer's nephew. He graduated from gymnasium secondary school in 1873 and subsequently worked as a fitter in Augsburg engine works. In 1875, he entered Munich Polytechnic as a student of mechanical engineering, but eventually changed his major to history of literature and philosophy, which subjects he studied in Munich, Berlin and Leipzig. In 1879, he was awarded a doctorate from the Leipzig University. Ganghofer wrote his first play "Der Herrgottschnitzer von Ammergau" (''The Crucifix Carver of Ammergau'') in 1880 for the Munich Gärtnerplatz Theatre, where it was given 19 performances. Alfred Deutsch-German (1870–1943) was an Austrian journalist, playwright, screenwriter, and film director.
