Mauer, Vienna
Mauer (German for ''"wall"''; Central Bavarian: ''Maua'') is a former village of Lower Austria that has been part of Vienna since 1938. Today's cadastral community belongs to the 23rd District of Vienna, called Liesing. In the west, Mauer borders the Vienna Woods. History A jasper mine was located in Mauer during the Neolithic. The first official mention of the village dates back to 1210. Wine production began during the Middle Ages, and still continues today. The Society of Jesus controlled the village from 1609 to 1773. In Biedermeier times Mauer was a famous Viennese summer retreat location. The first mayor took office in 1850, and the village was promoted to market town in 1902. After Nazi Germany annexed Austria, the City of Vienna was expanded greatly, which led to the incorporation of Mauer in 1938. Liesing
Liesing () is the 23rd district of Vienna. It is on the southwest edge of Vienna, Austria. It was formed after Austria's ''Anschluss'' with Germany, when Vienna expanded from 21 districts to 26. Atzgersdorf
Atzgersdorf (; Central Bavarian: ''Atzgasduaf'') is a former municipality in Lower Austria that is now a part of the 23rd Viennese district Liesing. A small part of the former municipality today is part of the 12th Viennese district Meidling. Today, the cadastral commune Atzgersdorf has got an area of 411,42 hectare. Vienna S-Bahn
The Vienna S-Bahn is a suburban commuter rail network in Vienna, Austria. As opposed to the city-run urban metro network, the Vienna U-Bahn, it extends beyond the borders of the city, is operated by the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways), and consists of many branch lines. ''S-Bahn'' is short for ''Schnellbahn'', which can be translated as "rapid railway". Network The Vienna S-Bahn consists of a multitude of branch lines extending beyond the city boundary, most of which converge at a central route segment called the ''Stammstrecke'' ("trunk line"). Hietzing
Hietzing () is the 13th municipal District of Vienna (german: 13. Bezirk, Hietzing). It is located west of the central districts, west of Meidling. Vienna West Railway Station
Wien Westbahnhof (Vienna West station) is a major Austrian railway station, the original starting point of the West railway (''Westbahn'') and a former terminus of international rail services. In 2015, its role changed with the opening of Vienna's new main station and Westbahnhof now is mainly a commuter station and the terminus of private rail operator WESTbahn's intercity service from Salzburg. Until 1892 Neustift am Walde (Central Bavarian: ''Neistift aum Woid'') was an independent municipality in the outskirts of Vienna, Austria and is today a part of Döbling, the 19th district of Vienna. Grinzing
Grinzing () was an independent municipality until 1892 and is today a part of Döbling, the 19th district of Vienna. Wien.gv.at webpage (see below: References). Geography Location Grinzing lies in the northwest of Vienna and, with an area of 613.52 hectares, is the largest suburb in the district of Döbling. To the northeast, it borders on Josefsdorf; the border continues along the Wildgrube and the Schreiberbach stream towards the east, where it branches along the Springsiedelgasse and the Neugebauerweg to the south. The border then runs along the Hungerbergstraße to mark the boundary to Unterdöbling, before following the course of the Kaasgraben, which divides Grinzing from Sievering in the east. Heuriger
In eastern Austria, a ''Heuriger'' (; Austrian dialect pronunciation: Heiriga) is a tavern where local winemakers serve their new wine under a special licence in alternate months during the growing season. The ''Heurige'' are renowned for their atmosphere of ''Gemütlichkeit'' shared among a throng enjoying young wine, simple food, and - in some places - ''Schrammelmusik''. They correspond to the ''Straußwirtschaften'' in the German Rheinland, the ''Frasche'' in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and ''Osmica'' in Slovenia.
