Östen Sjöstrand
Östen Sjöstrand (16 June 1925, Gothenburg – 13 May 2006) was a Sweden, Swedish poet, writer and translator. He became a member of the Swedish Academy in 1975. Biography Östen Sjöstrand gave his introductory speech in the Swedish Academy about the Swedish writer Pär Lagerkvist, who preceded him at the same chair. As a poet he debuted in 1949 with ''Unio'', which was marked by the post-war agony of the Swedish 1940s poetry. He was above all inspired of French poetry. Music was another source of inspiration for Östen Sjöstrand. In cooperation with Sven-Erik Bäck he wrote a pair of operas, including ''Gästabudet''. Osten Sjostrand
Osten (; nds, label=Northern Low Saxon, Oosten) is a municipality in the Cuxhaven (district), district of Cuxhaven, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the river Oste. Osten also means "East" in German. History Osten belonged to the Archdiocese of Bremen, Prince-Archbishopric of Bremen, established in 1180. In 1648 the Prince-Archbishopric was transformed into the Duchy of Bremen, which was first ruled in personal union by the Swedish Crown - interrupted by a Danish occupation (1712–1715) - and from 1715 on by the House of Hanover, Hanoverian Crown. Jesper Svenbro
Jesper Svenbro (born 10 March 1944) is a Swedish poet, classical philologist, and member of the Swedish Academy. Biography Svenbro was born in Landskrona, Scania, Sweden. He was educated at Lund University, where he was awarded a Ph.D. in 1976 for his dissertation , on the origin of ancient Greek poetics. Other works include '':'' (1988). He is director of research at Centre Louis Gernet ( CRCSA) in Paris. In 2006, he was elected a member of the Swedish Academy, succeeding the poet Östen Sjöstrand in seat 8. His poetry has been translated into English by the Swedish critic Lars-Håkan Svensson and the American poet John Matthias, and appearing, among other venues, in the journal ''Samizdat'' and the volume ''The Three-Toed Gull: Selected Poems,'' published by Northwestern University Press. Gothenburg
Gothenburg (; abbreviated Gbg; sv, Göteborg ) is the second-largest city in Sweden, fifth-largest in the Nordic countries, and capital of the Västra Götaland County. It is situated by the Kattegat, on the west coast of Sweden, and has a population of approximately 590,000 in the city proper and about 1.1 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area. Sven-Erik Bäck
Sven-Erik Bäck (16 September 1919 – 10 January 1994) was a Swedish composer of classical music. He was born in Stockholm. Bäck studied from 1939 until 1943 in the King's Music-Academy and from 1940 until 1945, was a composition student of Hilding Rosenberg. He travelled in 1951 to have further studies with Goffredo Petrassi in Rome. As of 1953 he was the leader of the chamber orchestra of the Swedish Radio Orchestra. He was also a member of string quartets - the Kyndel Quartet from 1940 to 1944 and the Barkel Quartet from 1944 to 1953. Bäck composed three operas, five works for ballet, many concertos, a number of works for chamber ensemble including at least four string quartets, an oratorio, cantatas, choral works, lieder and music for plays and film. He died in Stockholm in 1994.
