Östen Bergstrand
Carl Östen Emanuel Bergstrand (1 September 1873 – 27 September 1948) was a Swedish astronomer. He was Professor of Astronomy at Uppsala University from 1909 until 1938 and from where he received his Ph.D. in astronomy in 1899 under Nils Christoffer Dunér. His early work was focused on astrometrics, particularly in the examination of photographic plates to measure stellar parallax. He used the orbital motions of the moons of Uranus to measure the rotation period and equatorial flattening of the planet. He also made studies of the solar corona, using photographs from the 1914 solar eclipse expedition. He wrote works on astronomy for the general public, including ''Astronomi'' (1925). Östen Dahl (; born 4 November 1945 in Stockholm) is a Swedish linguist and professor best known for pioneering a marker-based approach to tense and aspect in linguistic typology. Karl Östen Elfving (27 May 1874 Vaasa – 25 July 1936 Boden, Sweden) was a Finnish agricultural expert and politician. Elfving's parents were the Mayor Karl Oskar Elfving and Jenny Sofia Nyman. Elfving's brother was Karl Oskar Elfving Younger (1872–1946) and sister teacher and writer Ester Ståhlberg (1870–1950) who was the second spouse of the President of the Republic of Finland K. J. Ståhlberg since 1920. Elfving graduated in agronomy in 1895, as a Bachelor of Philosophy in 1911 and as a Licentiate in Philosophy (PhD) in 1915. Elfving acted as a trustee, agricultural engineer, assistant to the county agronomist and as a consultant for agriculture until 1906, then until 1917 as an Inspector in the Settlement Board and as the Chief Executive of the Settlement Board in 1917–1926. Östen Mäkitalo (27 August 1938 – 16 June 2011) was a Swedish electrical engineer. He is considered to be the one of the most important developers in modern times together with Laila Ohlgren, both engineers at Telia. Together they developed the Nordic Mobile Telephone (NMT) system and were the leading figures, representing Telia and Sweden, in the meetings with the other Nordic countries to find a common standard. Later they developed GSM and led the meetings to find a European and later world standard for mobile communication. Östen Sjöstrand (16 June 1925, Gothenburg – 13 May 2006) was a Sweden, Swedish poet, writer and translator. He became a member of the Swedish Academy in 1975. Biography Östen Sjöstrand gave his introductory speech in the Swedish Academy about the Swedish writer Pär Lagerkvist, who preceded him at the same chair. As a poet he debuted in 1949 with ''Unio'', which was marked by the post-war agony of the Swedish 1940s poetry. He was above all inspired of French poetry. Östen Undén
Bo Östen Undén (25 August 1886 – 14 January 1974) was a Swedish academic ( J.D.), civil servant and Social Democratic politician who served as acting Prime Minister of Sweden 6–11 October 1946, following the death of Per Albin Hansson (1885-1946). In 1917, he was appointed professor and head of the department of civil law at Uppsala University, but he came to divide his career between politics and academia, which prompted his resignation from the position as rector magnificus (1929–1932) of that university. Östen Warnerbring (22 November 1934 – 18 January 2006), also known as Östen med Rösten (lit. "Östen with the Voice"), was a Sweden, Swedish singer, musician, composer and lyrics writer who mastered several musical genres. He started out as a jazz musician but over the years, he became known as a singer of other popular music, such as schlager music, and of Swedish poetry put into music by himself.
