Étienne Delessert (illustrator)
Étienne Delessert (born 4 January 1941 in Lausanne) is a self-taught Swiss graphic artist and illustrator. He is largely known for his animated series ''Yok-Yok'' and his collaboration with Eugène Ionesco, ''Stories 1,2,3,4'', as well as his work with child psychologist Jean Piaget. His work focuses on expanding the child's mind through the use of strange stories often designed to make children ask questions. He considers himself first and foremost a story teller. His creative process involves mostly digital media in combination with hand sketching. For his lasting contribution as a children's illustrator, Delessert was a finalist for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award in both 2006 and 2010. Career Delessert has children's book published and translated in over 14 different languages. He has also had illustrations published in ''TIME'' magazine. Jim Henson
James Maury Henson (September 24, 1936 – May 16, 1990) was an American puppeteer, animator, cartoonist, actor, inventor, and filmmaker who achieved worldwide notice as the creator of The Muppets and '' Fraggle Rock'' (1983–1987) and director of '' The Dark Crystal'' (1982) and ''Labyrinth'' (1986). He was born in Greenville, Mississippi, and raised in both Leland, Mississippi, and University Park, Maryland. Henson began developing puppets in high school. He created '' Sam and Friends'' (1955–1961), a short-form comedy television program, while he was a freshman at the University of Maryland, College Park in collaboration with Jane Nebel who was a senior. The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) is an international non-profit organization committed to bringing books and children together. The headquarters of the IBBY are located in Basel, Switzerland. IBBY history In 1952, Jella Lepman organized a meeting in Munich, Germany, called ''International Understanding through Children’s Books''. Many authors, publishers, teachers and philosophers of the time attended the meeting and as a result a committee was appointed to create the International Board on Books for Young People – IBBY. ''Yok-Yok'' is the title of a children's TV animation created by Swiss/American illustrator Étienne Delessert for the Swiss Television. A series of comic strip books was adapted from the films and published by Éditions Gallimard Jeunesse in 1979, followed by an anthology of Yok-Yok stories in 1981. A new series of Yok-Yok books in English was published by Creative Education (Mankato MN) in 1993. Yok-Yok books have been translated into 11 languages, with pirated editions published in Iran. A new and original series of 5 books is now being created by Delessert and will be published in French by Gallimard in the spring of 2011.
