Legislative Council Of Quebec
The Legislative Council of Quebec (French; ''Conseil législatif du Québec'') was the unelected upper house of the bicameral legislature in the Canadian province of Quebec from 1867 to 1968. The Legislative Assembly of Quebec, Legislative Assembly was the elected lower house. The council was composed of 24 members, appointed by the Lieutenant-Governors of Quebec, Lieutenant Governor upon the recommendation of the Premier of Quebec, Premier. Each councillor nominally represented a portion of the Province of Quebec called a division. The boundaries of these divisions were identical to the ones used for Canada East by the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada and were also identical to the boundaries still used today by the Senate of Canada for Quebec. The division boundaries were never changed to accommodate territorial expansions of Quebec in 1898 and 1912. Thomas-Philippe Pelletier (22 December 1823 Р28 April 1913) was a Canadian merchant and politician. Biography Born in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocati̬re, Lower Canada, the son of Germain Pelletier and Marie Marthe Pelletier, Pelletier was educated at the Coll̬ge de Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocati̬re and then became a school teacher. He later opened a general merchandise business in Trois-Pistoles and was the postmaster of Trois-Pistoles for fifty-three years. In 1892, he was appointed to the Legislative Council of Quebec for the division of Grandville. A Conservative, he served until he died in 1913. He married Caroline Casault, the daughter of Louis-Napol̩on Casault, in 1854. The Conservative Party of Quebec (french: Parti conservateur du Québec) was a political party in Quebec, Canada, from 1867 until 1936, when it merged with members of the Action libérale nationale to form the Union Nationale. Origins The party originated as the '' Parti bleu'' which was formed around 1850. The ''parti bleu'' opposed the anti-clericalism of its rival, the ''parti rouge''. The ''parti bleu'' supported the role of the clergy in Quebec society. Members of the ''parti bleu'', led by George-Étienne Cartier from Canada East, joined with the followers of Sir John A. Macdonald in Canada West to form a coalition government with Cartier as co-premier from 1857 to 1862. Amable Dionne
Amable Dionne (November 30, 1782 РMay 2, 1852) was a businessman, seigneur and political figure in Lower Canada and Canada East. He was born in Kamouraska in 1782 and grew up there. He became a clerk for Pierre Casgrain, a merchant at Rivi̬re-Ouelle, and, in 1811, was made a partner in the business. In the same year, he married Catherine Perreault, the niece and daughter by adoption of the local seigneur, Jacques-Nicolas Perrault. In 1818, he established his own business. Dionne served in the local militia, reaching the rank of major. He purchased the seigneuries of La Pocati̬re and Grande-Anse during the 1830s. In 1830, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada for Kamouraska; he was reelected in 1834. He supported the Ninety-Two Resolutions but did not support the rebellion that followed. Kamouraska, Quebec
Kamouraska is a municipality on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada. It is part of the Regional County Municipality of Kamouraska. It has been named one of the top 20 most beautiful villages in the province of Quebec, and the municipality is a member of the Most Beautiful Villages of Quebec Association. The name "Kamouraska" comes from an Algonquin word meaning "where rushes grow at the water's edge". History The area was settled by French colonists in the late 17th century. Lower Canada
The Province of Lower Canada (french: province du Bas-Canada) was a British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (1791–1841). It covered the southern portion of the current Province of Quebec and the Labrador region of the current Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (until the Labrador region was transferred to Newfoundland in 1809). Lower Canada consisted of part of the former colony of Canada of New France, conquered by Great Britain in the Seven Years' War ending in 1763 (also called the French and Indian War in the United States).
