Éamon Rooney
Éamon Rooney (died 9 November 1993) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as a member of the Oireachtas for twenty-one years. Rooney first stood for election to Dáil Éireann at a by-election on 29 October 1947 for the Dublin County constituency, following the death of the Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) Patrick Fogarty. He was unsuccessful on that occasion, losing to the Clann na Poblachta candidate Seán MacBride, but was elected the following year at the 1948 general election, taking his seat in the 13th Dáil. He was re-elected at the next four general elections, before losing his seat at the 1965 general election to Fianna Fáil's Des Foley, a 25-year-old gaelic football and hurling star. Seanad Éireann
Seanad Éireann (, ; "Senate of Ireland") is the upper house of the Oireachtas (the Irish legislature), which also comprises the President of Ireland and Dáil Éireann (the lower house). It is commonly called the Seanad or Senate and its members senators (''seanadóirÃ'' in Irish, singular: ''seanadóir''). Unlike Dáil Éireann, it is not directly elected but consists of a mixture of members chosen by various methods. Its powers are much weaker than those of the Dáil and it can only delay laws with which it disagrees, rather than veto them outright. It can introduce new legislation. It has been located, since its establishment, in Leinster House. Des Foley
Desmond Foley (12 September 1940 – 5 February 1995) was an Irish Gaelic footballer and hurler of the 1950s and 1960s. He was also a politician and represented Fianna Fáil in Dáil Éireann. Sports Desmond Foley was born into a farming family at Kinsealy, County Dublin in 1940. As a young man he showed particular skill at Gaelic games, winning four Dublin County Senior Hurling Championships with the St Vincents GAA club, having earlier captained the school team of St Joseph's, Fairview which brought the All-Ireland Colleges football title to Dublin for the first time. Foley captained the Dublin minor football team which won the All-Ireland Final in 1958. In 1962 he became the only player in history to play in two provincial Railway Cup finals, in hurling and football, on the same day, winning medals in both codes for Leinster. The 1969 Irish general election to the 19th Dáil was held on Wednesday, 18 June, following the Dissolution of Parliament, dissolution of the 18th Dáil on 22 May by President of Ireland, President Éamon de Valera on the request of Taoiseach Jack Lynch.
