Ã…sa Gottmo
Åsa Gottmo (born 22 June 1971 in Kalmar) is a retired Swedish professional golfer who played on the Ladies European Tour 1993–2008. She won the 2002 Wales WPGA Championship of Europe and finished 5th in the Order of Merit twice. Amateur career Gottmo played for the National Team and represented Sweden at the 1990 Espirito Santo Trophy in New Zealand together with Jennifer Allmark and Annika Sörenstam. She won silver at the 1991 European Ladies' Team Championship at Wentworth Club together with Maria Bertilsköld, Charlotta Eliasson, Carin Hjalmarsson, Petra Rigby and Annika Sörenstam. In 1992, Gottmo won the Swedish Junior Matchplay Championship held at Kalmar Golf Club, her home course. Kalmar
Kalmar (, , ) is a city in the southeast of Sweden, situated by the Baltic Sea. It had 36,392 inhabitants in 2010 and is the seat of Kalmar Municipality. Dame Laura Jane Davies, (born 5 October 1963) is an English female professional golfer. She has achieved the status of her nation's most accomplished female golfer of modern times, being the first non-American to finish at the top of the LPGA money list as well as winning the Ladies European Tour (LET) Order of Merit a record seven times: in 1985, 1986, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2004 and 2006. South African Women's Masters
The South African Women's Masters is a golf tournament in South Africa. First played in 1996 it is the second oldest professional women's golf tournament in South Africa, after the South African Women's Open founded in 1988. The inaugural event was won by South Africa's Sally Little, a two-time LPGA major winner. The tournament was included on the Ladies European Tour in 2001 and played at Gary Player Country Club in Sun City. Turnberry (golf Course)
Turnberry is a golf resort on the Firth of Clyde in Ayrshire, southwest Scotland. It comprises three links golf courses, a golf academy, a five-star James Miller-designed hotel from 1906, along with lodge and cottage accommodations. Turnberry was a popular golf course and resort from its inception, made accessible because of the Maidens and Dunure Light Railway. It closed in both World Wars for military use, and there was concern it would not open following World War II, but it was redesigned by Mackenzie Ross and re-opened in 1951. The 2002 Women's British Open was held 8–11 August at the Ailsa Course at Turnberry Golf Club in South Ayrshire, Scotland. It was the 26th edition of the Women's British Open, and the second as a major championship on the LPGA Tour. ESPN, ABC Sports and BBC Sport televised the event in the United States and United Kingdom. Albatross (golf)
In golf, par is the predetermined number of strokes that a proficient (scratch, or zero handicap) golfer should require to complete a hole, a round (the sum of the pars of the played holes), or a tournament (the sum of the pars of each round). For scoring purposes, a golfer's number of strokes is compared with the par score to determine how much the golfer was either "over par", "under par", or was "even with/equal to par". Holes are generally assigned par values between three and five based on the distance from the teeing ground to the putting green, and occasionally other factors such as terrain and obstacles. Maria Hjorth
Maria Anna Hjorth (born 15 October 1973) is a Swedish professional golfer. Early years Hjorth was born in Falun. As the youngest of three daughters to Kjell and Monica Hjorth, she first gripped a golf club at three years of age. Six years old, she traveled with her family, to compete in the unofficial Swedish Championship for children, the Colgate Cup, for girls up to 10 years of age. After the round, her older sister helped her to count the score. Nordic skiing was a main interest during winter time. At ten years of age, Hjorth also began playing curling and later became the youngest ever individual winner of the Swedish Championship in curling. Wales Ladies Championship Of Europe
The WPGA Championship of Europe was a women's professional golf tournament on the Ladies European Tour. The tournament was first played in 1979 in France, the first WPGA event held outside the United Kingdom. It was revived 1996 at Gleneagles in Scotland, titled the McDonald's WPGA Championship, and was the first event on the tour to be played solely for charity. Following the withdrawal of McDonald's as sponsors after just four years, there was a one-year break before the tournament returned to the tour in 2001 with a new home in Wales.
