Ålen
Ålen is a former municipality in the old Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. The former municipality existed from 1855 until 1972. It encompassed the southeastern half of what is now the municipality of Holtålen in Trøndelag county. The administrative centre was the village of Renbygda (also known as Ålen) where Ålen Church is located. History The parish of Ålen (historically spelled ''Aalen'') was established as a civil municipality in 1855 when it was split off from the municipality of Holtaalen. Initially, Ålen had a population of 1,487. (The now smaller Holtaalen municipality later changed its name to ''Haltdalen'' in 1937.) In 1875, an uninhabited part of Ålen was moved to the neighboring municipality of Røros. On 1 January 1972, the municipality of Ålen was merged with the neighboring municipality of Haltdalen to make a new municipality called Holtålen, bringing back to use a name from an earlier municipality. Ålen Church
Ålen Church ( no, Ålen kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Holtålen municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Renbygda. It is the church for the Ålen parish which is part of the Gauldal prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a neo-gothic long church style in 1881 using plans drawn up by the architect Jacob Digre. The church seats about 322 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1381, but the church was not new that year. The first church in Ålen was a stave church that was located about northwest of the present day church site (roughly the middle of the cemetery). The church was likely first built in the 12th century. The stave church had a rectangular nave with a narrower, rectangular chancel. Renbygda is the administrative centre of the municipality of Holtålen in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located along the Gaula River and the Rørosbanen railway line, about north of the town of Røros and about southeast of the city of Trondheim. The lake Riasten lies about to the east. Røros
Røros ( sma, Plaassja, ) is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Røros. Some of the villages in Røros include Brekken, Glåmos, Feragen, Galåa, and Hitterdalen. The mining town of Røros (the administrative centre of the municipality) is sometimes called ''Bergstaden'' which means "mountain town" due to its historical notoriety for copper mining. It is one of two towns in Norway that were historically designated "mining towns", along with the "silver-town" of Kongsberg. The modern-day inhabitants of Røros still work and live in the characteristic 17th and 18th century buildings which led to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.
