Álvaro Salvadores
Álvaro Salvadores Salvi (born 12 October 1928 in Chile – died 13 April 2002 in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia) was a Chilean-Spaniard basketball player who competed at the 1950 FIBA World Championship in the Spain national team, and at the 1952 Summer Olympics, in the Chile. Salvadores was also Chile's ambassador to Colombia, from 1986 to 1988. One of his younger brothers, Luis Salvadores, was a basketball player. Early life As a young boy, Salvadores' family immigrated from Spain to Chile by boat, due to the Spanish Civil War. On the way, he was kidnapped by a Gypsy, but was he was later found by his mother, with the help of some men. His family moved to Lanco, Chile, where they were known for their talent in basketball and music. He studied Law at the Universidad de Concepción, but gave it up a couple of years later. Lanco, Chile
Lanco is a city and commune in southern Chile administered by the Municipality of Lanco. It is located in Valdivia Province in Los Ríos Region, about northeast of Valdivia by road, close to Cruces River. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Lanco spans an area of and has 15,107 inhabitants (7,415 men and 7,692 women). Lung cancer, also known as lung carcinoma (since about 98–99% of all lung cancers are carcinomas), is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissue (biology), tissues of the lung. Layup
A layup in basketball is a two-point shot attempt made by leaping from below, laying the ball up near the basket, and using one hand to bounce it off the backboard and into the basket. The motion and one-handed reach distinguish it from a Jump shot (basketball), jump shot. The layup is considered the most basic shot in basketball. When doing a layup, the player lifts the outside foot, or the foot away from the basket. An undefended layup is usually a high percentage shot. The main obstacle is getting near the rim and avoiding block (basketball), blocks by taller defenders who usually stand near the basket. Common layup strategies are to create spaces, release the ball from a different spot, or use alternate hands. A player able to reach over the rim might choose to perform a more spectacular and higher percentage slam dunk (dropping or throwing the ball from above the rim) instead.
