Eger
Eger ( , ; ; also known by other alternative names) is the county seat of Heves County, and the second largest city in Northern Hungary (after Miskolc). A city with county rights. Eger is best known for its castle, thermal baths, baroque buildings, the northernmost Ottoman minaret, dishes and red wines. Its population of around 53,000 makes it the 19th largest centre of population in Hungary according to the census. The town is located on the Eger Stream, on the hills of the Bükk Mountains. Names and etymology The origin of its name is still unknown. One suggestion is that the place was named after the alder ( in Hungarian) which grew so abundantly along the banks of the Eger Stream. This explanation seems to be correct because the name of the town reflects its ancient natural environment, and also one of its most typical plants, the alder, large areas of which could be found everywhere on the marshy banks of the Stream although they have since disappeared. 2008–09 Nemzeti Bajnokság I
The 2008–09 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I, was the 107th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league was officially named ''Soproni Liga'' for sponsoring reasons. The season started on 25 July 2008 with Kaposvári Rákóczi FC beating the defending champions MTK Budapest by 3–1. The last games were played on 30 May 2009. Promotion and relegation FC Sopron withdrew their participation in the winter break of last year's season after they declared bankruptcy. The team was put into last place and got all points deducted. The remaining relegation spot was earned by FC Tatabánya, who finished the season with a mere 10 points. Promotion to the league was granted to the champions of the two NB II divisions. Kecskeméti TE won the Eastern Division while the winners of the Western Division were Szombathelyi Haladás. Nemzeti Bajnokság III (''NBIII'', ''National Championship III'') is the third tier of Hungarian football (from the autumn of 1997 till the spring of 2005, NB III was the fourth tier, the third was NB II). The tier contains 3 groups (west, center, east) of 16 teams. From each group, the champions are promoted to the NB II. The three lowest teams are relegated to the first tier of local divisions (''Megye I.''). From NB II, the three lowest teams are relegated to NB III. The 2015–16 Nemzeti Bajnokság II is Hungary's second-level football competition. The championship was won by Gyirmót FC Győr and they were also promoted to the 2016–17 Nemzeti Bajnokság I along with Mezőkövesd-Zsóry SE. Mezőkövesdi Sport Egyesület () is a football club located in Mezőkövesd, Hungary. The team's colors are yellow and blue. The team name comes from the Zsóry family who founded the thermal baths that brought wealth to the town. History The club was founded in 1975. On 5 June 2016, Mezőkövesdi SE hosted Dunaújváros PASE on the 30th match day in the 2015–16 Nemzeti Bajnokság II season at the newly built Mezőkövesdi Városi Stadion. NB II, currently known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of Hungarian football. At the end of the 2004–05 season, the tournament format was changed from one division of 14 teams to two divisions: ''Keleti'' (Eastern) and ''Nyugati'' (Western), each with 16 teams. In 2013 the format was changed and there is one division again with 16 teams, and then 20 teams from 2015. The champion and the runner-up will ascend to the first division while the two lowest teams in NB II are relegated to NB III.
