Phosphatase

In biochemistry, a phosphatase is an enzyme that uses water to cleave a phosphoric acidmonoester into a phosphate ion and an alcohol. Because a phosphatase enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of its substrate, it is a subcategory of hydrolases.
