Iyers (Tamil pronunciation:) (also spelt as Ayyar, Aiyar, Ayer, or Aiyer) are an ethnoreligious community of TamilBrahmins. Most Iyers are followers of the Advaita philosophy propounded by Adi Shankara and adhere to the Smarta tradition.
