Gi protein alpha subunit is a family of heterotrimeric G proteinalpha subunits. Gi proteins primarily inhibit the cAMP dependent pathway by inhibiting adenylyl cyclase activity, resulting in decreased activity of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA).
