Wigtown

Wigtown ( (both used locally); Scottish Gaelic: Baile na h-Ùige) is a small historic market town and former royal burgh in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Historically part of Wigtownshire, of which it is the county town, it lies east of Stranraer and south of Newton Stewart. It had a population of 859 in 2022.

Wigtown is known as "Scotland's National Book Town" with a high concentration of second-hand book shops and an annual book festival. It is part of the Machars peninsula.
