Topic summary
Trypsin 1

Trypsin-1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PRSS1gene. It is first produced in an inactive form which is often referred to as a trypsinogen. It must be later activated to the active form by another enzyme (either enteropeptidase or another trypsin) at which point it is referred to as a trypsin. This is one of the three isoforms of trypsin/trypsinogen found in pancreatic juice, the others being trypsin-2 and trypsin-3 (sometimes called mesotrypsin).
