Subfossils

Subfossil

Subfossils are remains from the Holocene that are too old to be considered modern. Unmineralized remains from previous geological ages are often erroneously called subfossils. Fossils however may consist of relatively unaltered material such as that of mollusks or amber. Subfossil material may also be mineralized remains of Holocene age. Subfossils are often found in caves or other shelters where they can be preserved for thousands of years.
