Phonsavan (also spelled Phonesavanh, Lao: ໂພນສະຫວັນ, lit.'heaven's mound', pronounced), population 37,507, is the capital of Xiangkhouang Province. Phonsavan is known for the nearby Plain of Jars, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
