Geography

The Minch ranges from 14 to 45 miles (23 to 72 km) wide and is approximately 70 miles (110 km) long. The Minch has been proposed as the location of an asteroid impact around 1 billion years ago, that created the sediments of the Stac Fada Member. The Little Minch is about 15 miles (24 km) wide. In June 2010 Eilidh Macdonald became the first person to swim across it from Waternish Point on Skye to Rodel on Harris, in a time of 9+1⁄2 hours.
